My vent of the day:

Moved into our apartment on Saturday - we knew everything wasn't done, but we wanted to start living in "our" own place together now that Spoom is officially in the states. When I last spoke with my grandfather (who is our landlord), my understanding was that the plumber would be out TWO (2) weeks ago to fix the leak/clog in the kitchen sink, and fix the leak in the bathroom. It was also my understanding that their furniture would be moved downstairs so we had room for ours.

So, fast forward to 9pm Saturday night, when we're trying to move stuff in -

Kitchen sink - clogged. Leaks if the water is turned on.

Bathroom - sink leaking from under the vanity, shower not installed.

Spoom's office - filled with furniture that's not ours.

Entryway - Handrail for the stairs (they're steep stairs, too) and coat hooks are missing.

ARGH. We've got the shower hooked up now, and some of the furniture moved around, but we were both about stressed to our wit's end on Saturday night. And someone needs to kick that plumber.

The only upside to ours is that Spoom and I get to work on these projects together. I'll have to post some of the "before" and "after" pictures of our apartment - it's a pretty drastic change in some cases!

The apartment's about 1300sq ft of hasn't-been-painted-since-'78. The last people to paint it were my parents, when they were newlyweds (why, why, WHY would you paint your kitchen cabinets antique green?!). Spoom, me, and my family have been working on painting the apartment and fixing it up since August or so. If I never see another paintbrush again, I'll be ecstatic.

I hear you.....I am in my last week (as I am being laid off on Thursday) so I can't seem to get motivated to do anything. On Thursday (after the layoff) we are having a charity Management vs peons hockey game, and since I will be playing. I think there will be a lot of frustration taken out on the management...lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Got back from a nice camping trip this weekend. The trip was tempered with the recent news that my aunt will once again ruin thanksgiving. She makes these grand plans to host thanksgiving at her house and she always plans to cook a huge feast. But in the end, they are just plans. She will at the last possible moment panic, and order a thanksgiving meal package from the local market and beg my mom to have thanksgiving at her house. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and the ordered thanksgiving package is like having fast food.

Mini vent:

After a forty minute call to my ISP last night, I was able to get my internet and digital phone up and running...

For an hour.

I've fiddled and futzed with it since then, but to no avail...which means I'll likely have to call them again and start from scratch. Sigh.

Well, it could be worse. My parents have a fairly modern computer with DSL connection too.

Ah, so you celebrated your three-month anniversary of no scheduled interview with a bottle of wine, eh? So if it happens to go another month, will you resort to whiskey? Absinthe? Arsenic?

Morning, everyone. I am in a post red-wine haze today and am battling it with boatloads and boatloads of coffee! How'ma doing?

Absinthe is fantastic btw.

Montreal Interviewer: "What do you have in common with each other?"

Peachey: "We're REALLY weird."

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

<back to interview>

Me: "Yes, yes I do."

Shaw sucks, Wyatt. They're a joke ISP.

I'm not with Shaw. I've been with Uniserve since I first started on the internet in 1996... It's funny, they used to have their office based out of a small converted house in Aldergrove. Now they're big and corporate. Whenever they ask for my customer number and I give it to them, they always get confused because it's such a low number, since I was among the earliest subscribers to their ISP. I remember thinking my "new 28.8 modem" was so much faster than the more common 14.4 ones at the time.

Uniserve has always been good to me. I pay $67 per month for internet and unlimited long distance calling...I pay NO long distance charges whatsoever, which is spectacular when you have a wife in America. :)
