Better than being unemployed!!! lol

Yep, that is exactly what my fiance' said. I will do it, because I have a contract and a job and I make enough to support my fiance' and me until he gets his EAD and a job.

2 vents.

Revenue Canada STILL hasn't gotten back to me about the taxes I supposedly owe.

And no GC. :( I would like it before my August trip, but I think the delay is due to the new GC design. Maybe.

Dooododooododoo.

Yah, I pretty much did my husband's resume and his cover letter for him too. I know I DID NOT say to leave out education. That's just effing STUPID. He also changed his cover letter to be very different from what I said to do as well. But that's another story...

I know how to job search. I've done it many times in life, and have had actual training courses on it. HE has not. So I've told him what he should do, and given him many many suggestions, but he just doesn't put in the full effort like I think he should be. How am I supposed to help? There's not much we can do for housework to keep busy since we're just in a one bedroom apartment. I've told him the line that looking for a job is just as much work as the job itself, and that if you don't put in the effort people will realize that and he needs to show he's committed and needs to make himself stand out more. But by now he's just taken it all as me being a nag and he gets frustrated and doesn't want to hear it or deal with it. So then he gets all depressed, and stops trying, and all that good stuff, etc.

It's pretty stupid. I'm not kidding when I say I'm considering moving back to Canada. I'm fed up with this place. My husband is locked into a lease until December though, so we can't do anything about it until then.

The worst part is that before I moved I was really looking forward to him working and me being home alone for a while during the day. I haven't lived alone in years, and I know this wouldn't be the same as living alone, but I was really looking forward to alone time. I had all these plans in my head of things I wanted to accomplish, and now I can't really do them. It's just not the same. I can't just be like 'yeah i'm going out for a while and I don't want you to come with me'... ya know? If he was at work all day I could do whatever I want without worrying about him. We're stuck with each other in this little apartment 24/7. It's really horrible actually. I love my husband, but I SERIOUSLY hate this.

That was a long rant, sorry. lol Thanks everyone for your responses... I'm getting really depressed about this entire situation. My friends back home have had a lot of events and parties lately and I'm missing out on everything, and birthdays, and mothers and father's day... It blows. We have NO friends here. None.

Sorry to hear about your frustrations Ashen :( I can imagine that would be really difficult.

As someone who just went through the whole job searching process, I can definitely understand how discouraging and intimidating the whole process can be. I spent a long time thinking about getting a job, and halfheartedly looking at job postings and playing around with my resume, but I just wasn't motivated or really interested in finding a job. It wasn't until I decided that I really wanted to start working, and that I was bored of being home all day and feeling useless that things started to fall into place. My husband could bring it up all he wanted, I just really didn't care until I decided I wanted to do it for myself. It caused some conflict in our relationship, definitely, but looking back now I see it was all because he could see that I wasn't happy in my current situation and needed to get out and do something on my own. So, maybe and hopefully he'll get to the point where he's really unhappy with his situation and becomes motivated to get off the couch and get into the hunt. It's easy to sit at home and wallow in self-pity, but eventually he'll realize that nothing will ever change if he doesn't work to make the change.

I can't believe he didn't put his education on his resume! Of course it's relevant! The job I have now I only got because of my education. They figured since I have a BA I must be smart and therefore they can teach and train me to be great at the job. I moved down here with nothing but my education and a resume that said I worked at Tim Hortons for 3 years. It certainly wasn't my coffee shop job that made me stand out, that's for sure.

Hopefully you get your EAD soon and you can show him how its done :)

My side rant, totally related to employment... Our office receptionist called in sick today, and my brilliant supervisor decided I should be the fill-in receptionist today. That's fine, I'm the new girl and that's how it goes, aside from the fact I need to try and keep up with my other work at the same time. She's not coming in tomorrow either... So I'm going to be working my butt off on Thursday and Friday just to catch up. The worse part in all of this is that she was hired around the same time I was... so she's at the job for a month and is already taking 2 sick days off? I would be dragging my butt into the office no matter how ill I felt. It's just not reflecting very well on her. She better not get herself fired so I don't turn into everything girl until they hire someone new. But, still liking my job and still very thankful to have it! ;)

I understand what you mean about just 1/2 wanting to look for a job. I know what it's like to have to job hunt, as I've said I've done it before many times... It's not easy, but after 4+ months it's time to stop pouting and man up and get on with it. The problem with us though is that we have no income. My husband is on unemployment (which runs out in August), and his dad has been paying our rent. We literally can't afford for him to be this way about it. We had to cut costs out of our already 1/2 a$$ed wedding... had to absolutely cancel any plans for a Canadian wedding... I can't go home to visit even if I wanted to... we had to spend money that I got from my tax return which I was saving for my birthday trip back home in October on bills/gas/groceries... and so on...

sigh. He does apply for jobs a few times a week, but even when he's applying he's not really putting a full effort behind it to ensure he really makes him self employable. UGH... sorry, i need to stop ranting about this. I'm just so frustrated, and have no one to talk to...

I really hope I get EAD soon too :( If nothing else then I can start getting EI.

Sorry to hear about your receptionist, but on the plus side it makes you look better. lol

I'm still pissed off about my EAD.

I never got emails, never got touches after it was approved.

Never got the approval letter in the mail, never got the one for my AP either.

It looks like they never even produced it!

What the heck am I going to do with the green card production being really slow, and the first available appointment I can get an infopass for is June 1st!

I HATE not having something to show my legal status here! I'm sick of not having a state ID and especially not having a job!

That sucks Rhiann :( It's useless to get an approval if you have no proof. You can't move forward with that at all! I hope it comes soon for you.

Well with him being on unemployment and his dad paying the rent.. maybe he doesn't feel like he has to rush out and find a job? I am sure if rent was due and his dad wasn't paying... he'd be S.O.L and would be finding a job pretty fast. When his unemployment runs out, I am sure he'll be looking a little harder as well.

Maybe you both could go back to Canada... is that something that can happen? I don't know what to tell you, I am frustrated for you.

I didn't have problems looking for a job, but I took what was first offered to me... front desk at a hotel, where I was eventually promoted to sales manager. It wasn't ideal, but I wanted to get some experience, socialize (god did I ever just want to talk to anyone but my husband and inlaws ) and get some local experience to put on my resume. I eventually quit and found something better. But sometimes you can't be fussy. It just felt good to get a pay cheque in my name even if it wasn't for a whole lot. It was something.

This entire process kicks you when you're down. It is SO frustrating. I waited 7 months for my 10 year green card, well still technically waiting because it's not 'in hand'.. but they sent me a letter saying that card production was ordered... I say I'll be waiting for another 4 months. :P

So it's been really windy where I work and live, but especially so this morning. I was walking into work, and a big gust of wind had blown my hair forward. Before I can even get a chance to put it back into place, a co-worker says to me "hey, you've got the justin bieber hair going, looks great". Really? ** YOU LADY!!! Not a good start to the morning.

On another note, it appears that I am immune to melatonin. I tried it again last night and ended up staring at the ceiling again. I have to imagine that at some point, my body is just going to give out and i'm going to pass out due to shear exhaustion.

How much exercise are you getting each day? Try taking a 30 minute walk a couple of hours before going to sleep, outside. It works wonders and no costly supplements. There are some foods that help with the whole "sleep hormone" producction too, but I will have to look those up at home.

I take the dog for a walk about 2 hours before I go to bed. This is actually about when I started having troubles with my sleep. It is also coincidentally when my wife left for her trip to visit her family.

Do you consume caffeine at all? My caffeine consumption has a direct affect on how well I sleep at night.
