That is so horrible! :( I hope that your dentists figure out a solution to fix the problem. And like Varba, I hope its pain free :(

LOL Marilyn -- that video is awful!

Not a vent but just a blah Tuesday today. I dont know whats wrong with me but I just want to climb in bed and be buried under the covers.

When dealing with the IRS, USCIS, and Dentists............ nothing is painless.

Is so frickin irritated at everything in general right now! Love my job hate the long hours and the pay! Don't have enough vacation time accrued to go to Canada and I work every weekend!! I am on two different time zones/ continents with my hubby who is currently overseas an our schedules conflict! Two people trying to live & work half ways across the world just doesn't work! It frustrates me that I can't pick up the phone and call HIM or MSG him. I am the one left waiting, he has to call/MSG me on HIS time! I've gone through overseas stuff with him before, the schedules have never been this bad though!!!! Counting down the days.........

Oh and no sunshine just rain for my days off... Wonderful....

k...i'm not canadian, shhhh don't tell anyone else but youse guys have the best threads.

i have a new boss who is a complete and utter azzhat! i went from having by far the best leader i've ever encountered to this joker who has never said good morning to me in the 4.5 months we worked together. he has taken it to new lows, i am now not allowed to choose my own seat in a metting. regardless of where i sit he now will say: "that is not a good place for you, i want you to sit over there." to the remaining meeting attendees: "i guess we'll wait." (as in wait for me to move). he makes every effort to draw attention to me and belittle me in front of people. oh how i wish i could quit. although i should have known that it wouldn't work well long term when he was given his position on an interim basis and he called me in to meet and said..."i just want to know what you do around here" OUCH.

sounds selfish with so many out of work i know, but i'm tired of being either ignored or treated badly.

OH MY GAWD!!!1

I just typed out the hugest PM of life here on VJ and for some freaking reason, it wouldn't sent it and then it was just gone. I couldn't go back to it and it was just gone.

It was one of those catch up, how's life in the US PMs to a friend and it was literally 20 paragraphs long. seriously.

We really need an auto draft or something. that was a big bummer and now I do NOT feel like retyping the email. Made me cranky.

ya that happens!! ur best to just write it on MS word, then copy/paste it!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks guys,

I reached my dentists office at 7:30 this morning and they scheduled me in this afternoon. They made another temporary crown and this one feels much better right from the start - it fits better and feels like it belongs much more than the other one did so I suspect the other temporary just wasn't a good fit right from the start, which is why it came off. Fortunately, this part of the process is painless - they just have to remold the temporary crown then fit it and glue it in place. She also told me that if a crown comes loose I can use denture adhesive to secure it back in place until I can get the a dentist so that is good to know. No charge today - nor should there be for this - I've already paid enough (more than enough) for the procedure B-).

Hmm, you might want to start keeping notes about these type of incidents. When someone who you report to starts making your workplace really difficult to cope with by treating you like this, by singling you out and belittling you in front of others and making it impossible for you to feel happy or comfortable at work, it begins to sound suspiciously like 'constructive dismissal' - he can't fire you but he is hoping you become so uncomfortable with the treatment that you leave on your own. I wonder if he has a problem with individuals from other cultures and since it isn't legal to discriminate, he is taking it out on you this way, hoping you will have enough and leave on your own. It is completely illegal. That is why it is a good idea to 'document' any incidents in case you find yourself backed against a wall and no where to turn. Workers in the US have few rights but actions taken against them that are based on discriminatory practices due to culture, race, gender, age, etc. is one that does have repercussions and you do have some protections against such actions.

There is a really good book you might want to get either through Interlibrary loan or for your own: Every Employee's Guide to the Law: "What you need to know about your rights in the workplace-and what to do if they are Violated" by Lewin G. Joel III, Pantheon Books, NY. My copy is from 1996 but I am sure it has been updated as I have Edition 3.

Good luck :) and don't let the jerk get to you.

No. They're just going on and on about the cuts... which aren't that bad. They're taking it to extremes.

Instead of freezing their salaries for ONE year, many schools are just firing teachers who have been teaching for less than 10 years, putting an end to after school programs etc. Then they're whining about it, but all the governor wanted them to do was re-structure their budgets and consider a salary freeze... they refuse and now the children are paying.

They weren't asked to let go of what they already have, they were asked to just freeze their salary for one year and pay a little more towards their health care until this state starts to get back on it's feet once again... and instead of going ahead and doing that, they cut things that shouldn't be cut.

@kathryn...yep he is most definitely trying to make me quit! he got here in january and we were given our performance evaluations in march unfortunately for him i received a very high rating and have done so for my 3 years here so he has no grounds for any action.

yesterday he changed a meeting purposely because he knew it conflicted with school. i had a pre-existing approval from my last boss for this qtr to work from 7-3:30 to get to my classes by 4. (unfortunately i'm in a csu school and classes are a challenge to get). he changed itsuch that my usual leave time of 3pm to get to school and take the 3:30 call from my car was impossible and simply said "i wondered if you were committed to your job and would attend" (of course i attended and missed my class and said nothing because i don't want to give him any ammunition)

i will order that book from amazon today, but frankly i think that once this qtr of school is over i will go back on the hunt for a job. thanks for the tip!

I was never really a big fan of teachers until I became very good friends with one. Yes, they make good money, but here in NYS they also have to get a Master's degree (which isn't cheap) within 6 eyars of being hired and also pay for almost every single photocopy, pencil and eraser in their classroom. I don't know if its like that in NJ, but my teacher friend spends thousands of dollars on name tags, bulletin board decor, supplies...it's insane! I mean I personally undestand what they are saying about a freeze in pay. How would you feel if you knew no matter how hard you worked, no matter how much you improved, basically no matter what you did you would not be getting a raise. I mean, as a teacher it's true, money isn't good anyways and they shouldn't be in it for the money, but we are all human and we could ALL use a raise. My friend is pretty good though, she's really appreciative for her time off and her income and all of that, but I mean there are some serious downsides to being a teacher... so I see their point even if I don't totally agree with it. At the end of the day, I'd rather have my job and not get a raise than have cuts of things (people and school activities etc.)

I was always a big fan of teachers until I moved to NJ.

Teachers in NJ are paid quite well.

I haven't gotten a raise in a year and half, they put a salary freeze on all of us here at the country club I work in order to avoid laying people off. And they just raised our health care costs. I know how it feels. I am thankful I have a job. My friend is a great teacher at a local high school and just got a pink slip because she's only been teaching for 6 years. The students are livid because she's changed their lives... she's livid because she can't get a job anywhere else because a lot of districts are opting to cut newer teachers out, cut busses, cut after school programs.

It's a year. It's not forever.

That's really sad for your friend :( 6 years is a long time and a lot of experience. I hope she finds something. I totally agree with you on the year thing... I do think peopel in union's can be pretty spoiled. I was mostly just playing devil's advocate, I am totally agree with you.
