Driver's licence is expired. I still have the old health card with no picture on it.

I wonder if I should go back with my passport and a bank card. Last time they said they just needed a picture ID and some other ID like an old bank card... but the account for the card I have is closed..

And seriously? I can't get my driver's license until AFTER I get my greencard now?!

How the heck am I supposed to get onto my husband's account with out it? I'm going to lack evidence majorly if I can't get on :crying:

My I-94 expired on the 22nd of February

Guess I better go cancel that appointment then :/

They ask for it at the bank.

I got my driver's license before receiving my green card .. they accepted my work authorisation (which is valid for a year) until I get my green card and gave me a temporary driver's license expiring the date my work authorisation expires.

Maybe they would accept it for you also if you have a work authorisation yet.

Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.

Yeah, my DL hinged on either an unexpired I-94 or an EAD.

But honestly, I'd try hitting up the bank with your passport and anything else. Health card, SIN, whatever. There should be no reason why that shouldn't sufficed.

Yeah, this time I'm going to ask for a manager.

I've asked there 2 times before and the employers gave me two different answers as to what to bring. You'd think an SSN and one picture ID would be enough.

Yeah CA is a pain in the #### on the DL front as if your I-94 isnt valid for 60 days+ they won't issue you an actual DL, just a temp that expires when your I-94 does. I did find out though Rhiann, we can use AP as well, if yours should get to you before your EAD. My ontario license is valid but my tags just expired and I can't register my car without my DL, which I have to go get now that my AP came in the mail, what a complete pain!

No he doesn't call him dad. But we're pretty relaxed about that sort of thing. He knows who Mike is, Mike is the one who brings him to flyers games, teaches him hockey and yells at him from the stands to "SKATE!" while he's playing on the ice :P... he's more of a dad than his biological dad ever was and ever will be.

My husband wants to legally adopt Ethan, and I have always felt weird about it, but maybe it's time to really just let him take the last step in becoming his legal guardian. I think it's the right time to do it. There's no way that other man is going to walk back into my sons life and take some sort of parental role.

Nev-That's ok about the dad thing...But nevertheless, Mike (your husband) seems more like a dad to Ethan, than his biological father is. It's great that Mike is supportive and is there for him when he needs to be! Yup, that sounds like a dad to me. Lucky Ethan!:)

As for the legalities, actually, I think that it is a great idea that Mike wants to adopt Ethan! If anything were to happen (gosh forbid...I'm not saying that it will...but you never know...), you can be more rest assured that Ethan is well taken care of by someone that he loves and cares about. Think about it this way: If something were to happen, would you want to courts do decide for Ethan to go back to his biological father, or to Mike? Personally, I would pick Mike, as he seems like the better father-figure here, and if he has the paperwork to have custody for Ethan, then there's more of that in favour for him in a legal situation too.

As well, here is another interesting tidbit: Since Mike is a US Citizen....And when he adopts Ethan....Ethan is a US Citizen right away (that is, if you both want Ethan to be a US Citizen), which is less of a worry of him being separated from Mike...All you have to do show the adoption papers and other immigraiton-related papers and identification papers, apply for a US passport..and voila....It's done...No need to deal with the USCIS about this..lol..just another thought...(you might want to talk to other VJers who have done this for more information...but yes, it can be done...)

Anyways, I hope that Ethan continues his relationship with Mike as his "real dad"! He sure is one lucky boy, indeed!

Oh boo. Well, I'll try with the EAD, since someone said it's possible.

Oh America, so confusing.

Rhiann-If it makes you feel any better, I had to wait until after I got my green card and ssn in order to get a driver's license and be added onto my husband's account....(see my vj timeline for more info)..

Heck, I did not even have any US government documentation (much less any legal status) until after I got my green card...(nor did I have and EAD or AP either)

So for the AOS interview...You have to be creative here! Think joint stuff in other ways...:)

Anything and everything else you can get joint...will help...:)

But yeah, I know what you mean...It sucks to have to wait for one government agency after another.....

Nevertheless, I hope you get this all sorted out, and I hope you get your driver's license soon too..

Ok..another vent...

So back in March, we went back to Canada for a visit.....

What I didn't mention was that we went for someone's birthday...

Beforehand, we had asked them what they wanted...

And they said that they wanted a camera...

So we searched all over the stores in Canada...

And got them the camera...

But on their birthday...

They changed their mind....

Said that they didn't want it....

And we couldn't return it, since they had opened the packaging....

What kind of person does this? Definitely rude, indeed!

So now we're stuck with the credit card bill and a camera that we don't want and can't use here in the USA...

Seriously, does anyone in Canada want to buy a new camera that's for sale? It has a Canadian warranty and everything....And it's only been used once.....

Oh and on the way back, because we were upset over this....

Ummm...my husband accidently crashed the car in a pole...

Total damage....$1000!

Yet another bill......

Lol....It looks like we're not getting out of debt after all.....

Sigh...

Why do things always happen to us when we go back to Canada...

I need to get out of this place, but I have to wait until my house closes. I really spruced up my resume yesterday and I am ready to really buckle down and find a new job.

No one is getting raises here but our workload just keeps getting heavier. I am now also responsible for taking members kids to the pool one friday a month in the summer and doing arts and crafts with them... I came here as an administrative assistant... a freaking secretary! Now I'm a babysitter.

Donne moi une poptart!
