*sips water, passes it to Wyatt*

Man, I read that too and you, my friend, have just started. I got all zen on my own a** and I'm trying with the will of a titan not to bvtch myself silly!

But I hear you and I gotta agree, sorry TM, but it does seem kind of 'random' that other countries are so very well equipped and able to handle a huge amount of interviews whereas Canada, one of the top first world countries lags behind.

To all of you from the Montreal Consulate reading this, please do not slip my file to the bottom of the stack again, I swear, I'm being respectful here -- it's the truth! We're all waiting with bated breath to see what your next steps will be!

Chin up Wyatt, if a spaz like me can wait, surely you can too!

We'll all keep each other entertained while we do so.

Kumbaya, anyone?

Have you ever thrown any food away? Stuff left on your plate or in the fridge too long? There are people starving. Ok, dramatic example, but it is what came to mind - their priorities are different than yours.

Which does not discount your feelings! I guess i'm just saying they don't mean to be insensitive - i'm sure you will get scheduled soon, hang in there Wyatt!

Yup, that IS quite a dramatic example!

I'm sure they don't mean to be insensitive either, but wanting to reschedule the interview because of holidays? I suppose Christmas means something different to Christian folks, but I still can't grok the mentality of rescheduling an interview for mere convenience purposes...

I'm definitely fine with hanging in there, and I'm honestly not even thinking about myself in this instance -- it's just the concept in general that irks me I guess.

Okay, vent and sub-vent over!

On an unrelated topic, my Husband just popped down to Sobeys for a few things and you know how they have buns in those little bins and tongs.

Well the woman ahead of him bent down to put her stuff in her small shopping basket or whatever and she was holding the tongs and put them on the floor :o - then picked them up and set them back.

Bah!

I just called the store to let them know.

Oh trust me...my chin is up! I'm still happy and optimistic right now. I was just annoyed when I read that in the other forum, given what some of the folks here are going through in terms of waiting to BE scheduled.

Honestly, I'm bothered by it on a more philosophical / anthropological level. It's the mentality of virtually anything being more important than an interview date that galls me...and that someone thinks they can simply have their consulate reschedule it a few days earlier to make things more convenient. As if their consulate doesn't have enough things to do already!

No biggie. It's cool. Don't misinterpret my vent as anything other than a vent. :)

I was at London Drugs earlier today and saw a CDR 25-pack for for $9.99 and a DVD+R 25-pack for $7.99, so I thought I'd get both. I had already calculated the total price together, so when the cashier registered the total amount at about $10 more than I expected, I asked to look at the receipt.

It turns out there's a "copying levy" put on all media that can play music. So if I buy a CDR, I have to pay this levy because I might decide to burn music to it.

I was completely shocked. The worst part was that when you added the levy and tax together, it cost more than the item I was buying in the first place!

I went to the Customer Service desk and told them my issue. I wanted to know WHY the store shows a certain price without alerting the customer of the levy.

The lady behind the CS counter said the following: "Some stores include the levy in the price. London Drugs doesn't do that so we can show you what's added by the levy on your receipt This gives the customer an idea of what he's paying."

That's idiotic. If they want to "give the customer an idea of what he's paying" then they should include the entire price on the store shelves! What London Drugs does now is deceptive.

I returned the CDRs, got a refund put back on my credit card and left.

What's really interesting is that this levy isn't on any type of recordable DVD. That's because you can't play a DVD on a CD player. No car has a DVD player.

That was a levy proposed about two years ago that LD actually tried to get cancelled. Appears not enough people voice their opinions against it. I remember the signs up on the registers at the time about it.

Yup, I've run into that problem at London Drugs before too, DeadPool. And yet some stores don't seem to have the levy in their system. I bought a ten pack of CD-Rs from Superstore a few weeks ago and there was no levy. Best Buy and Future Shop have it included in the overall price.

Chances are, most retailers where electronics are NOT a big part of their business won't recognize the levy.

My vent today

I got turned down (again) for a job. I had passed the first 3 stages of their hiring process but got the email "they would not move forward". I was pissed and sad about their stupid personality test online. I was supposed to be able to review my answers and next thing you know it says "thank you for submitting". I'll give some reviews!!!!! Geez.

So i was mad, sad and pissed and angry etc... about that and the city here where there is no job and I cant find a job blablabla (we're in michigan AND not in a big city) and hubby decided to take me on a nice date to the restaurant we had our rehearsal dinner. It was very nice and the food was delicious.

He is such a sweetheart (L)

Awww hang in there Laure.... I know how hard it is, trust me!! It took me almost 7 months to find a job... went through lots of interviews, tests, rejection letters, no call backs, etc.... I know how you feel! I was so grumpy and vented alot to the hubby every day, poor guy.... I cried a few times too! It's hard enough as it is in these times to find a job, and I think even harder for immigrants. It may take awhile, just be patient and hang in there!!

My vent today - my mother joined Facebook. Arrrgggh! I knew I shouldn't have talked them into getting rid of dial up. With dial up, accessing it was pretty much pointless. Don't get me wrong, I love her dearly, but the last thing my 13-year-old son and I need is to have Grandma in every aspect of our lives. *runs quickly to search through pics and son's postings for anything Grandma will have a hissy fit about* :o
