Sam don't say you don't have any friends in Florida. You've already got me!

Hehe. What's the halfway point between Casselberry and Cocoa Beach? :P

Titusville.

Cool. We can meet up at Kennedy Space Center!

Haha, do they serve good coffee? ;)

Which one of you will be living in Casselberry? We'll be just north of Pine Castle.

That'll be moi. Arabella already lives in Cocoa Beach.

I'm awful with knowing where cities are in relation to each other, though. Ben gets moved around constantly for his job, so when he's in a new city, I'll try to sound all-knowing and say something like "Oh, that's about an hour west of Orlando, right?"... I've since learned to keep my mouth shut and just ask where it is, haha.

Thanks Wyatt... I hope it all works out well for you guys, and it sounds like it will :)

Thanks! I'm pretty confident it will too. :)

But, he gave up a lot to move down there as well (which he did before meeting me, go figure), so we together decided it would be a waste of time for him to have blown all of that only to come back here again, even if that seemed 'easier'. Neither of us would be happy here, even if we had our friends. I AM excited to move, but I guess I don't like the naivety of people who thing it will solve ALL of life's problems, whether they mean it supportively or not.

Ah, it's very true...and it mirrors something in my wife and I's relationship as well.

In the Summer of '08, I was head-hunted pretty vigorously for a position at a different company. I had previously worked with the proverbial head-hunter for a year and a half, so he knew my skillset / personality etc., and made me a great offer, giving me $7000 more per year, an extra week of vacation time etc. and a promise of more opportunity for growth than at my then current job. At the time, I was quite torn, because I wasn't certain what path my relationship with Anna would take (meaning that I knew we were going to be together...just not when and where). At that point, it was looking more like she would be moving to Vancouver, and she encouraged me to take the job...which I did. It was a few months later that a co-worker suggested that we could move to Bellingham and do the commute thing that I mentioned above. But in the meantime, it became readily apparent to me that despite the assurances of the person who brought me to the company I worked for, it was really a dead-end job. I was not enjoying it much, despite making quite a good wage and having three weeks of vacation time. So ultimately, I decided to move down there...and Anna was SO relieved. She loved me enough to be willing to move up here without much complaint...but she loved me even more to not have pressured me into moving down THERE. That's one of the things I'm happiest about: my decision to move to D.C. was solely my decision, albeit with input from my wife...but ultimately it was the right decision. This particular point was rammed home when I was laid off last month! I can't imagine how aggravating it would be for both of us (especially Anna) if she'd rearranged her life to move up here, only to have me lose my job, and thereby lose a large chunk of the initial reason for moving...

Trust me...it was no slam dunk decision for me to go down there, and we had a few arguments about the merits of each option, but things worked out well in the end, as I'm SURE they will for you!

For what it's worth, I'm not much of a social person either...nor is my wife. Both of us are very sociable, in that we are more than comfortable in social situations...but we don't tend to gravitate towards them. Fortunately, I happen to get along with all her friends, which will make the transition even better. I'm sure the two of you will find the right balance of social gratification once you actually get down there and start to adjust. Just remember to look at it in a positive light. Change is usually a good thing if you have the right attitude about it. :)

My mom's firebird > yours!

'70 Formula Ram Air - that car was hawt.

Ram Air III was the base engine in those cars but, this will make you sick, there were a few that were equipped with Ram Air IV. A Ram Air IV Firebird with even some rust is worth at least $30,000 and a mint one is ~$100,000 or more. :crying:

It was a IV. :(

There aren't enough emoticons to express my sorrow. :crying:

Alright, apparently I'm Venty today, (and I don't mean Venti as in Starbucks, though it is a large amount of venting... har har)

FYI to any USCs who have promised their spouses, REPEATEDLY, that you will come up to help them move... don't start discussing options that include you completely reneging on your promise and making them go alone. When moving options are discussed, breaking a promise shouldn't be one of the options.... My fiancé just did that, and he's lucky he's waaaay out of arms length, cause I'm about ready to punch the retardedness out of him. Pardon my non-PC mouth.

I'm not sure if he is actually backing out, cause I made it pretty clear about how pissed off I was. But basically it's the cost, and blah blah blah. He also randomly thinks now he might not be able to get the time off work. Things that apparently never came up before when we talked about it. I mean, it's pretty shitty timing to suddenly think that maybe he doesn't want to come or that he can't.

We also keep having the same stupid debate over and over about flying vs. driving. I want to drive, he wants to fly. I have a cat, and there are NO direct flights, so it's affecting the decision a bit. It's a bit different too because he HAS driven over there before, whereas I have not. So, for me it's a bit more of a treat, and a one time experience, and something I was really looking forward to. Now, he just seems to want to do whatever's 'easiest'. ??? I don't think he's really thinking it all through. Like, just make a freaken decision for crying out loud... ARGH!

Am I the only one that gets irritated with well-meaning friends who respond to my apparent stress of this visa process by saying 'well soon it'll be done and then you can move and everything will be perfect!!'. Perfect?!? No, it's not going to be perfect... #######. Yeah, having NO friends or family in the area, and no job/hobbies/support group, unfamiliar surroundings sounds great! Oh, and I also love the comments about the weather (I'm moving to California), as if there's no other reason to move there. Cause yeah, I'm moving for the WEATHER. geez. That just makes me think they think I'm shallow. I actually LIKE snow, thanksverymuch, and there's a million other reasons I'm moving, and despite that, it WON'T be perfect! sigh.

I also love that if I am stressed about anything at all, they blame on this visa thing even if it's completely unrelated. It's like it's PMS. Oh, you're cranky? It must be the PMS/Visa. #######?!

I also hate working Saturday.. AND Sunday, when no one else is in the office because our management is such that for me to take Thurs/Fri off to go to the interview, I have to scramble to get my work covered AND work extra hours myself. It's good times.

I also hate that for a city of well over 300,000 people, our Santa Claus Parade SUCKED.

Ok, I'm done.

OMG i loved it, im sorry but with the comment from Trailmix that was just perfect

I hope you felt better after writing though

Rawr. There is this one person who always posts in the K-1 forum that drives me batty. They are rude to posters and think they know everything!! Everything they say is right answer, of course, since they know everything, and we should just ignore the other posts. The problem is that they don't even read the other posts when they reply. They even try to answer consulate/country specific questions they obviously have no experience with and know nothing about. This is why I stay in Canada! This is the person who insulted me when I tried to help someone because apparently Canada is different then every other country and rules apply differently to us. Not really.

OOOH i'd love to read that person's comment :)

Who's that - give me a hint !!

My vent:

Someone at my husband's work gave an ex-worker our home number without asking us (this is also against site policy due to privacy laws). This person has called us twice now - the first time I answered since I didn't recognize the number and thought it might've been one of my husband's supervisors calling. This person called again today and left a message saying some very strange things including, "it would be good to hear your voice." This man is in his 60's and quite a weirdo. I really want to find out who gave out our number.

It might have been the disembodied voice of your Mom's Ram Air IV Firebird. :P Actually I'm just kidding, this is a very serious matter. Who is this ex-worker and what is his relationship to you? Do you know him? Was DH his supervisor? I hope this guy is harmless and just lonely but you never can tell. Does he know where you live?

internet reverse lookups can give the answer to that real quick. even unlisted numbers (i ran it on my own unlisted number back in '02).
