My husband and I were just discussing this the other day. I don't mind him doing the laundry, but I find I have so many finicky items myself (like delicate sweaters that go in a bag, or something I was remembering had a grease spot from lunch on Weds) that it's just easier if I do it.

His laundry is always easier...sorts, washes and can dry virtually everything he owns. I hang most of mine to dry on a rack and then fluff in the drier when done.

I will also do it on Sat morning as early as possible to get it out of the way (ooooh let's see what time it is now...5:52am)

Being up that early on a Sat to do laundry is just wrong in soooo many ways!!!!

I LOVE doing laundry. That being said... I am not allowed to do husband's as apparently I don't fold the right way. What is wrong with cramming everything into the drawer? Huh? What?

I hang all my nice stuff up but all the t-shirts and stuff. Crammed, basically. Socks always in pairs though. I like to do laundry, only because it motivates me to clean.... the smell of clean laundry makes me think the rest of the place should smell as such...

Today's vent:

I cannot seem to get my TomTom's directions to match the ones I've found on MapQuest. I don't care that the fastest route takes me through really weird ramps and five different highways just to end up on the same damn road I was originally on. I want to staaaaay on that road. And avoiding any single direction seems to throw an extra hour on my route.

I knooooow how I want it. But it won't go that way.

Grumble.

I hear you on that! I also hate it when various map / directions sites pick out the "fastest" route. The most direct route is what most foreigners want.

That's why I'm having such a hard time deciding on what route I'm going to take when driving from Vancouver to Washington D.C. Soooo many options!

Exactly.

I want as little redirection as possible. Even from Windsor to Toronto for my medical, it wanted to take me on three different variations of the 401 just to get there. To Montreal is easy... it's one freaking road until you get into the city. A map shows that, MapQuest shows that. Why is my GPS insisting to take me through so many different routes to end up on the same road?!

It's a nice little gadget to have, but it makes things so complicated...

I can totally understand the rationale for having a GPS, and I'm positive they come in handy for situations exactly like yours. However, I'm pretty sure I'm going to refrain from buying one when I get to D.C. I think I'd rather just have a map in the car "just in case", and find my own way around. Unlike most people, I think it's GOOD to get lost sometimes...provided you have no urgent place to be, of course. I like to figure things out for myself. I mean...after I took a couple of wrong turns on two different occasions last week, I KNOW I'll never make those mistakes again. If I'd been blindly following a GPS, I wouldn't have learned that, I don't think.

Or maybe I'm just too proud or too cheap to buy one!

Oh I'm in definite agreement there. I was just concerned about the conversion from small-city life to being thrown into Orlando, heh. The idea of having a GPS as a backup was a bit of a relief to the mind. The sale made the purchase come about sooner, so we could use it to drive to Montreal... but now I'm thinking it may be used once in the city itself, and we'll just have to rely on the map to get there.

But I do agree, getting lost and finding the way ensures that you'll actually retain a wee bit of that the next time around.

Sam - try Google. MapQuest doesn't update their maps very often so there may be some construction that the TomTom is picking up that MQ isn't.

Wyatt - Google Maps allows you to move the route around to fit what you want.

And apparently the TomTom is confused about 720 somehow being involved with 20. Bleh.

I never even thought to check out GoogleMaps. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely take a look.

Google maps is great. I love it.

I refuse to buy a GPS for the car. I'm a visual learner so as soon as I can map out my route, literally, and see it on the map, then I'm good. I always come across stories of a GPS guiding someone through stupid routes and detours and it just seems like a waste of money to me. I guess I'm a bit cranky and old about certain technologies sometimes though. I will use a GPS when hiking maybe, in case I get lost, but I'd also bring along a map anyways... my fiancé has an iPhone, so we usually quickly access google maps via that if we need to find where to go. So I guess that's my way of mixing technology with my map vs. gps preference. lol

No problem. :) I don't use anything else anymore - ever. It's just too reliable.

We too bought a GPS when we were in Florida - mostly because my Husband was working at a job where he had to visit many sites in a day and he just wasn't familiar enough with the place to do that on auto pilot.

It actually worked really well for us. We haven't downloaded the Canadian SW yet - but we know our way around Calgary so I don't know how helpful it will be, maybe when we go to buy a house it will be.

I love our TomTom... in LA you really need one... well, I do :P

HA! Its so true. The roads and traffic in LA are insane! I don't know how you do it Marilyn. I would probably cry...

I think anyone who lives in or around a big city can really benefit from having a GPS. If it wasn't for my GPS I would never know where I was or where I was going. Honestly, I don't even look at maps. I just type where I want to go into the GPS and follow its every command. Its like my god and I'm always at its mercy. If all fails I just drive towards the mountains because I live in the western part of the metro :P

I have a Garmin Nuvi, its great.

I also have a Garmin Nuvi and I like it. My friend has a Tom Tom and I don't like it as much. Always super overestimates the time it will take you to get somewhere.
