Absolutely! Lots of fish in the sea right? I keep trying to tell myself that, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to let the townhouse I love go. Our Realtor is investigating the situation to see if it would be worth trying to offer on it anyway. I'm a little skeptical and we probably will walk away, I just want to know I'm not jumping the gun and making the wrong decision ya know?

Absolutely - and you are wise to explore all the options on that one instead of just walking away - you always have to explore these things - as you already know! Even with the place we looked at, as awful as it was, we sat down and did a pros/cons list - just to be sure. Needless to say the pros were few and hard to come by and the cons - well that's history

 I got a January payment for GST direct deposited in my TD account!!! #######! I notified them when I moved in October, gave them my new address and told me I was not eligible for the payment as I had moved to the USA!! About a month later got a notice in the mail to pay back $55 of the $150 I got...not sure why it wasn't the whole thing...maybe for SK? I dunno... anyways...Now I have to call them and get this straightened out! Add this to the list of people I have to call! :bonk:

Ugh, that sucks! I've got 3 GST payments since I've been in the US even though I've called them twice, sent 2 letters and keep sending the cheques back. Hopefully they'll finally get it and won't send it this month!! How annoying Minnie

We have been looking and will buy a house this Spring once wife returns from her work trip. Not looking forward to renting out our condo. Don't think we will have nay probs renting it out, just a pain in trying to find the responsible renters, lol We have looked at a few foreclosures and a few short sales just for fun! WOW! what a mess most of them have been! The foreclosures especially! On the outside, they look nice, go inside and the place has been gutted! One basement was flooded and smelled of cat urine! The Short sales not so bad, but people stop taking care of them, so again it turns out to be a maintenance issue. Of course there have been a few ok ones, just not something we liked. Will be a lot more houses on the market come Spring time

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Well bear in mind that your GST cheques are based on the PRIOR year's tax return. So the cheques you are receiving are hearkening back to the 2008 fiscal year. If you filed taxes for 2008, then you're still entitled to them, since they are, in fact, rebates...not payments.

Vent of the day:

A groomsman, who was the first of my friends to meet Spoom, stepped out of his role as a groomsman about a month ago stating financial concerns. We were sad he wouldn't be able to be in the wedding, but found a replacement for him.

Yesterday, he sent me a message on facebook (?!) telling me that since I can't talk to him for at least a half hour 2-3+ times a week, my effort in our friendship is subpar and that he won't be attending the wedding. Basically, he friendship-broke-up with me over facebook. Lamezilla. I explained to him that right now I'm working a 12 hour a day job 5-6 days a week, planning a 200+ person wedding, and that I have familial, community, and church obligations after my 12 hour workday ends. My bridal shower was 2 weeks ago, and we haven't even opened stuff yet because I haven't been home enough to do so. I'm frustrated with the whole situation - some of my best friends and I don't speak for weeks at a time, because we know the other is busy with life and relationships and children, etc. - that's just how life goes. Friends don't need to know what the other person ate for lunch, y'know?

Then, one of my bridesmaids called me and told me she'd totalled her car in a really bad wreck. She's okay and her kid's okay, but the car isn't and she's not old enough to rent one.

*facepalm*

Good Lord. I can relate to your friend "breaking up with you", Scooter. I had a friend go a bit crazy on me because of his perception that I didn't spend enough time with him in person and on email. I haven't responded to him, yet, because I am still a bit hurt and angry. Sometimes people say stupid things when they are hurting about other things, and they take it out on the closest target.

I'm glad your friend and her child are okay.

I'm trying to find out why there are so many shows on TV lately showing irresponsible people and parents lol. I was going through the channels yesterday in our bedroom while my wife was wasting away watching The Batchelor in the other room and couldn't believe how many shows there are involving morbidly obese people. I know America is increasingly getting worse in terms of health but Good God! Between shows rewarding people for letting themselves go to horrible levels (The Biggest Loser) and a show on TLC about a HALF-TON TEENAGER I just can't believe it. On one show a parent was allowing her 500-some odd pound kid to completely binge-out on their favorite foods a few nights before they had the gastro-bypass surgery.

My wife and I actually have been discussing this a lot lately and will be requiring our children (when we have them lol) to participate in at least one sport/physical activity until they're out of high school and will watch what they eat closely. I can't believe with all of the blessings and technology that come with living in a developed nation that people would be so irresponsible, really disappointing.

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

It's always been like this, seeing overweight children that are obviously mistreated (ie: I doubt there are that many families where the teenager is about to undergo gastric bypass and the parent encourages them to binge) is just the topic of this particular time in history.

Children are sexually abused, they have alcoholic parents, they are abandoned or left for hours on their own, their houses are health hazards - on and on the list goes. This is nothing new they are just easier to hide and hide they do.

Case in point. While living in Canada as a teenager, I was asked to babysit for the people across the street for a few hours, I said ok. While their children always looked slightly grubby, nothing indicated what was going on in that house, it was filthy (actually beyond filthy - without going in to detail). You would never know this looking from the outside.

I think the Biggest Loser program is slightly odd. It tries to portray itself as an inspiration - really it is just marketing a show where others can sit in judgement....

The trash that TLC has on sometimes - it's amazing.

Yep just amazes me how irresponsible some people are and then even weirder how they're rewarded by being on TV and being paid for it I guess. Makes me VERY glad that my wife and I waited to have kids until we're ready

Oh ScooterMac, so sorry to hear about the friendship fallout, especially so close to your wedding! Some people don't realize how busy lives can get, especially when they're about to get married!

Yeah. That wasn't a dig at Americans. :hehe: I find a lot of things odd in Europe too. I guess things in Canada aren't odd to me because I'm used to it. I'm getting used to American things now too. Like.... I've stopped being surprised at the American banking system, the way people drive, the fact that pedestrians aren't given the right of way, etc, etc. It's been "normalized" for me. lol

People can't drive here in Vancouver, either. They also think pedestrians are wastes of space (I've been almost hit too many times to count).
