My husband doesn't do the laundry either. But that's my preference. Why? His idea of laundry is everything in one load on permanent press. No if, ands, or buts about it.

LoL, is there any other way to do laundry? I do the laundry and thats how I do it mostly, except for a few things that need their own special load. I'm sure if Mel really didn't like it, she'd do it herself

Yes!

There is the towel pile, there is the undies/socks/misc pile, there is the whites pile, there is the color pile, there is the darks/blacks pile. The first three get put through on regular wash and the last three are on delicate.

I'm like you Mal! I also then sort the colours, whites and darks by heaviness and separate anything really heavy etc.

My husband thinks I'm nuts!

 Nice!! But I totally agree, things need to be sorted properly to insure they are cleaned thoroughly but not ruined in the wash! And to insure they stay the color they are supposed to be!

I like to wash the first three in the "superclean" cycle. I also have a hand wash pile. I always buy clothes made of weird fabrics you are supposed to wash by hand... of course I don't check the label before purchasing. Its really quite annoying.

It wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't know he knows how to do laundry, and do it properly. He lived on his own for 2 years and did his laundry then, why can't he do it now!? Men :P

Alrighty ladies, THIS is why a lot of guys don't do their own laundry!

I've been doing my own laundry for many years, and would be more than happy to do my laundry when I move in with my wife. However, I'm also perfectly fine with doing single loads of everything together. I've never had significant fading of my clothes etc... It takes less time and works just fine!

I'm NOT about to start sorting out my laundry into little loads and spend the whole day fussing over such things. I'm a very clean person, and my clothes will always be clean...but I draw the line at sorting. I think most guys are in the same boat, which is why their spouses wind up taking on the laundry duties. It's not so much that women want their men to do the laundry...it's that they want them to do the laundry in the exact same way as they do it!

Well ya know, I spend a lot of money on nice clothes. I like to look nice! So I cringe at the thought of washing my good jeans in the same load at like a red greasy work shirt. Not cool. I don't think men understand that. To them clothes are clothes, whats the issue?

What I was suggesting to him is that if he needs clean socks, why doesn't he just do a load of his socks?! Not my clothes, but just his. He's not to clean my clothes! :P

I'm the type who wants to throw everything in the wash at once, so my husband does the laundry around these parts.

It's not about just fading, it's also about keeping the clothes in good condition for them to last a long time.

I just jumped in the topic and that is so funny

I dont sort either. Everything at once, except if the material is very nice or something that needs to be handwashed or drycleaned.

I ruined a few clothes like that but its ok, i like to buy new clothes. Ok i lied, i get f** pissed when it happens and i tell myself next time, i'll sort clothes out. But i never do

Joe used to take his shirts to the laundry and have them do them before I got here and then throw everything else in together. We have enough laundry together that we do need to sort anyway, so things get sorted by whites, darks, blues, greens and warm colours. I wear a lot of greens and warm colours - Joe wears a lot of blues and darks :) - it works for us. Towels and under garments go in the correct colour load. Whites are washed in hot with bleach; darks are washed in cold; everything else is washed in warm with colour safe bleach. I actually enjoy doing laundry - it is much nicer to be able to do it at home rather than rushing out to a laundromat like I did before I moved here.

re the vent: - Joe has so many socks that he can't wear them all in 3 weeks so we never have to worry about them running out - same with underwear and undershirts - yet he insists on wearing the same ones over and over again until they are literally worn through - and then I have to suggest to him that they be thrown into the rag bag.

I am not terribly picky aobut how my laundry is done.. I do separate somethings ..

but I don't like when my hubby does laundry he just turns over the laundry bag over into the washing machine and adds the soap and turns it on.. and then he doesn't fold the clothes when they come out of the dryer he just dumps the clothes back in the bag and then complains that they are wrinkled :P

All guys have their lucky underwears and lucky socks. My laundry technique consists of cold water wash if the clothes aren't particularly dirty, i.e. office/school duty. Warm water/hot water wash if the clothes are white or dirty and they won't fade. Hot water and real bleach for clothes that have blood, grease, automatic transmission fluid or sometimes all three. Lime sulphur coated clothes get washed separately. I always wear worn out old clothes when I have to perform manual labour so my good clothes don't get dirty.

My husband and I were just discussing this the other day. I don't mind him doing the laundry, but I find I have so many finicky items myself (like delicate sweaters that go in a bag, or something I was remembering had a grease spot from lunch on Weds) that it's just easier if I do it.

His laundry is always easier...sorts, washes and can dry virtually everything he owns. I hang most of mine to dry on a rack and then fluff in the drier when done.

I will also do it on Sat morning as early as possible to get it out of the way (ooooh let's see what time it is now...5:52am)
