Personal Attacks: Reminder from the Admin

Hi all-

First let me thank you for being a part of the VJ community.

Next, I simply wanted to remind everyone how important it is to consider the "elevated" stress that immigration can cause as well as both the multi-cultural and multi-language elements that come with this. I know it is easy sometimes to vent or take out steam on people. It happens all the time in the real world. Like you, I have slipped myself sometimes. The one thing that is important though is that when that happens you can look the person face to face and apologize once you both cool down. Unlike the real world, online chatting can often make this second part less likely to occur because we don;t see how our confrontation affects the other person "emotionally". No one likes to feel belittled, picked on or ganged up on. I know I don't!

I know this does not apply to most everyone here, but to those it does (apply to) please consider what I ask: We are all real people behind the "screen name". If you find someone you do not like -- ok... it can happen. I encourage you to try and work through disputes but ultimately just like in the real world you may just have to agree to disagree and not communicate. I would like to ask that if you or anyone else has been using "the webs" to plan strategies to hurt the feelings of, gang up on or otherwise disrupt the forums for "fun" or to "pick on someone" (for any reason) that you stop. Please. VisaJourney is not the place for this. There are many other forums you can visit if this is what you like to do.

Again thank you for listening as the last thing I want to do is to have to (and I will if needed) bring the "army" of moderation (by myself and our mods) in for a deep investigation on these issues and to start handing out suspensions or worse. As it is, I have already started reviewing information that has been passed to me (names, post information, etc) so I can get a better feel on some of the local disputes (I want to see all sides). I am sure the best solution is that the community can self regulate these recent problems instead of me having to enforce things in a more cut and dry method.
