Also, we did obtain our 5 year Alberta driver's abstracts for our auto insurance company - as I could not get a letter of experience from my other insurance company - because the can't manage to mail it out despite the fact I have asked for it 3 times.

At first they accepted the abstract, then they called and said no - then I called them back and explained that it is a government document and it should suffice, they accepted it.

So basically, if your new insurance company won't accept it, do try to get a letter of experience from your current car insurance company.

If relying on the abstract alone, should I be sure to get the certified one? It's only about $5 more, it seems.

I didn't, I just got the regular print off.

As far as insurance goes, State Farm let my husband add me onto his car insurance policy with my Canadian license, no questions asked, no extra fees.

Getting a license has been a nightmare for me! Hopefully you have a much easier time. Basically immigrations has me in their verification system in my maiden name, and all of my documentation (EAD, NOA, SSN) is in my married name. So since the names don't match they couldn't "verify my identity." So I had to go down to a special S.A.V.E office and have my documents inspected, now I need to wait up to 9 weeks for a response from immigrations, allowing me to get a license. Insanity. Luckily I was told that 80% of immigrants pass the initial verification at the DMV, I just wasn't that lucky. I've never even heard of this before. Anyways, mini vent

It seems like Florida has much easier standards than some states, so I wish you luck Sam!

I've been following some of your craziness, and honestly, I don't see why it has to be so bloody difficult.

If the EAD/AOS is in your married name, I don't see what their issue is. I hope that gets cleared up much sooner than the nine weeks you're expecting.

Is the NOA from AOS the only one accepted, or will they allow me to use the NOA for my EAD (which I believe comes sooner)?

Is there any benefit to me getting a Florida State ID?

And I take it, I can be added to my fiance's/husband's insurance using my Canadian license, then?

Looks like either way, I best be renewing that license of mine, heh.

Thank you again for responding, Krikit. :)

A K-1 is a non-immigrant visa so the EAD will be fine. Document Requirements

The Florida State ID gives you proof of legal presence. (ie, you want to get into Disney for resident prices. lol) Plus, it cuts down on the hassle when you apply for your license.

GEICO added me to my husband's insurance with my Canadian license. Once I had my Florida license I just gave them the new information.

Thank you once again, Krikit. If they accept the EAD, that'd be perfect. :)

(And that would definitely be worth it, haha, Disney's so expensive, oi..)

Thanks! I hope so too. Apparently what takes the most time is waiting for immigrations to respond? At least according to the DMV.

And Florida residents get discounted Disney tickets? This is news to me. Jealous. Very Jealous. Sam... best friends, yes? ;) hehehe

I still think Disney should be kind like SeaWorld... Buy a one day pass and enter all year. Only went four times this year, but definitely abusing it from here on out. :D

Every time I went down to visit, I'd ask what day we were headed to SeaWorld... Man, that's disappointing.

Got a reply from the Florida DMV:

Once you have filed your I-485 application to adjust your status, you may report to any driver license office with your passport, Canadian license, marriage certificate and the I797 (notice of action) receipt to apply for a Florida license. You will also need to present proof of your address. The license will only be valid for one year. We hope this information will assist you.

If I get married in mid-April, and apply for AOS within a few days, do you guys think I'll have my NOA for AOS before July 10th? I'm going to do some timeline research, but feel free to share your thoughts!
