Rupert Murdoch indicated on Monday that News Corporation would sue the BBC over breach of copyright for “stealing” material from his newspapers round the world.

Mr Murdoch ... was asked how he would be able to instigate his proposal to charge for newspaper websites such as The Times in the UK or The Australian when the BBC and ABC produced free news content on their sites.

“But we are better,” said Mr Murdoch, chairman of News Corp.

I guess its a good thing that he doesn't have to substantiate his corporate PR speak any further than the balance sheet.

Are there any grounds at all on which you'd dispute the claim?

What's the claim? "Better" is pretty vague.

Usually business guys claim quality on the basis of profits, but that's deficient in a number of ways.

Is there any definition of better by which you'd dispute the claim?

In terms of content absolutely there are - but business guys like Murdoch aren't interested in qualitative content analysis.

Well you're a collectivist librul and the BBC pushes a collectivist librul ideology. Figures you'd think it's better. But freedom loving people like Murdoch know better.

Murdoch is a monopolist. He doesn't care about "freedom".

If he's such a monopolist, how does the BBC exist?

And besides, even if he were to ever become a monopolist, I have no doubt his media would promote a pro-freedom agenda. If you doubt that, look at Fox News. They're at the forefront of pro-liberty programming.

The BBC is funded directly by the British taxpayer.

UK TV only consists of BBC, ITV (which Murdoch owns shares in), Channel 4 and Channel 5 - and SKY (which Murdoch owns outright).

You can't watch a lot of televised sporting events because Murdoch bought the rights and sells them as pay per view.
