I called my insurance provider today to see if I was covered for a medical exam. I wasn't but she said "shouldn't your Alberta Health cover it?". Good question I thought, so I called them and asked them if they'd re-imburse for a medical exam done out of province. The girl on the phone figured they would!?! I mean I didn't exactly say it was for immigration purposes, but still a medical exam is a medical exam right.... Or am I way out to lunch??

I have no idea about how Alberta's insurance works but OHIP in ontario doesn't cover medicals like this that are required for insurance, jobs or immigration. They only cover basic checkups unless medically necessary to have a deeper exam. If yours is like ours it won't be covered, even if you could have it in province.

yeeeeah..... I'm really doubting they'd cover that (it's not really necessary for your health, ya know?), but I'm also Ontarian so I don't know.

No, it shouldn't be covered. At least, not according to Dr. Seiden. His website says:

"The cost of the medical examination, blood testing and x-ray is NOT a benefit of Canadian Provincial government health insurance plans. You may be able to obtain reimbursement from private insurance or your sponsoring employer."

It is not covered.

Oh and make sure, if you don't have proof of all your vaccinations that you get a titer test - plus any vaccinations you need updated - before you go for your immigration medical - those are covered by health care, however if you have them done at the panel physician they are not.
