Had my interview a few days ago, test was easy, rather too easy. IO went through my application, asked me to sign a few. In the end, she said, she has two files of mine (N-400 and I-751) and she will go through. I have passed the test but she is not approving my case, unless she goes through my files. Why........... does it makes sense? How can you cal me for an interview without going through my files???

Before I left, she mentioned I will be recieving an Oath letter (not sure about time) and might be able to attened December Oath ceremony.

Anyone has any idea what really is goin on? Should I be worried or not, I really do not know.

Words from anyone will be helpful.

All the best to everyone.

Was there some kind of break in communication? If the IO said to expect an oath letter, then that means she is pretty sure she is going to recommend you for approval.

The IO should have given you a letter at the end of the interview that looks like this:

(website removed by request)

Anyway, if they need more documents from you, they will send you a letter. Otherwise, the next letter you get will probably be your oath date!

They technically have 120 days from the time of your interview to make a decision. If you don't hear from them, make an INFOpass!

The above is not legal advice.

It is either from research or merely my opinion.

I just had my interview today, and i passed and the officer told me that he was going to recommend me for approval and he left but then he came back and told me i had the option to wait for the oath letter by mail or wait a couple of hours and get it today. I chose the today option. Anyway what they did while i was waiting is that a supervisor reviewed my application before i got the oath letter. So i think that in your case they just had to have a supervisor review it. It looks like is normal procedures.

Did you ask when was the next oath ceremony???

At what time did you have your interview? Sometimes people who are interview in the morning get their file process the same day

BUt don't worry i think you should get your oath letter soon.

Hi Well-Wisher,

Congratulations on passing your interview, though sorry to hear that they could not give you an oath date right away. From the looks of it, it seems like it is an administrative error, and not your fault there.

I agree, "why would they schedule you for an interview, if they didn't go through your files in the first place"?...makes no sense there...

On the other hand, they said that you were approved for the interview and that they will be sending your oath letter in the mail, so that's good here too. In the meantime, just wait for that for the next few weeks or so.

And if you don't get you oath letter after a long wait, by all means, contact them again via the mis-information line, infopass apointment, or worse case scenario, your local senator, congressman, ombudsman, etc. for an oath date.

Hope this helps and that you get your oath date soon. Good luck with the rest of your journey too.

Get an infopass appointment for next week.See if your receive your oath letter by then, if you do you cancel your infopass, if you do not you go to your appointment and ask them. I have noticed that when you get an infopass appointment, it speeds the process.I think they check your case number at local office after receiving the appointment request and act on it even before the infopass.

You have the constitutional right to petition the government (your senators, congresspeople etc) even though you are not a citizen yet, use your right.

I hope and think that you will receive your oath letter within 10 days the latest.

I am now a US citizen.
