Hello, Is it possible to travel internationally when possessing a conditional green card through a fiancee visa? Is there a 'special' passport that one gets to attach visas? Are you required to show your native country's external passport? Thanks.

Once the K1 visa holder enters the USA and is married, you file to adjust status and at the same time, apply for advance parole. Until advance parole is received, she can leave the USA but would not be allowed to return. The K1 visa will go in her international passport.

It is possible to travel internationally with a pending AOS (PR/Green Card). You need advance parole to re-enter the US while waiting for the PR/Green Card. No special passport. Until and/or if the person becomes a US citizen, they will always travel using their native country's passport.

It is very possible to travel internationally with a greencard (does not matter if it is a conditional or other).... A greencard is a physical "card" and is NOT placed in a passport... for international travel a person travels on there country of citizenship's passport and when returning to the USA they present both the passport and greencard to seek re-entry. The "greencard" only makes visa free travel typically for Canada, Mexico and a few other Carribean nations... So when travelling, the greencard holder must follow any visa rules to any countries visited, dependent on there country of citizenship.

YMMV

Thanks for the quick responses...so it seems imperative that the native country's passport does not expire. Is it possible to renew a Russian external passport by sending it to the Russian Embassy in the US even when my fiancee (at that point wife) will have a US address? I have attempted to call the Embassy in DC, but I encounter terminal hold... The reason I'm asking about future renewal versus now, is that there are some timing issues with current international travel and not wanting to have her passport being renewed/unavailable when they schedule her interview. Any additional info is much welcomed.

This follow on question may be best asked in the RUB (Russia, Ukraine and Belarus) regional forum.... many there have experiences specific to Russian beauracracy and life in the US for Russians... I know in our situation, it is far simpler to renew in country than even attempt a US based renewal.

YMMV

The answer is yes but it is quicker when done in Russia.

For Russia, it will be best for them to enter Russia using their Russian passport and reenter the US with the Green Card.

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

For Russia, it will be best for them to enter Russia using their Russian passport and reenter the US with the Green Card.

They'll be "using" the Russian passport for all entries to any country anyway. Travel before the green card is issued requires advance parole to re-enter the USA. Travel with the green card allows re-entry to the USA and does away with the need for a visa to enter many other countries. A Russian citizen needs nothing but their Russian passport to enter Russia.

Until the green card holder becomes a US Citizen, ALL international travel will require the Russian passport whether a visa or green card is needed or not.
