Got my wedding dress on ebay for $74, and it was perfect, even shipped in a real garment bag.

My kids wouldn't know what new clothes feel like, everything they own comes from Goodwill or the Salvation Army Thrift Store, or any yardsale I happen past. So far, I've gotten about $30 (total) sunk into their "new" school clothes for the fall. And the stuff for the younger daughter is Gap, Old Navy, blah, blah, blah.

Recently found myself a pair of Hilfiger jeans (new with tags) at a Goodwill for $2.50, and a red Ralph Lauren sweater for $2 at another thrift store. Pearl wedding photo frame for 50cents. The public library holds a sale twice a year where you can buy all the discards/castoffs you can fit in a paper bag for $2!!! Yippee...my husband and I make a day of it!!

It's like I have a magnet in me that just pulls to thrift stores or any place that sells quality items insanely cheap! But that's just me, a cheap gal!!!!:lol:

I just got a spare chair for the dining table for five bucks because it was an oddment... it's the same basic design as our other four, just a different colour. I would have loved to get two, so we'd have six chairs, but one was all they had...

I love thrift stores and second hand shops - in fact, I can't remember when I bought anything in a regular store or for a regular price except for some furniture. Everything I wear is 2nd hand and I am regularly complimented on my clothing - no way could I afford to pay full price for some of these items but whatever you can stuff into a bag for $5.00 is perfect. Joe and I both enjoy doing garage sales, and if I could find auctions here (I haven;t yet), I would be there in a minute. I have some beautiful original art that came from auctions along with some wedgewood china. It is hard to remember anything particularly special because there is just so much that is second hand here.

(well, okay, I have bought underwear new - that I don't buy second hand:-) ).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

A friend of mine lives near Paris. She is not only gifted with a fabulous dress sense, but also with a nose for sniffing out the most amazing stores where one can get designer clothes for next to nothing.

The wonderful days we used to spend in Paris snapping up all the "big name" clothes.

"Oh, that's just a little John Galliano/Sonya Reykiel/Jean-Paul Gaultier I found at the back of my closet".

Sweeeeeeeeeeet.

I go to a place called Value Village all the time and find stuff. My wife bought a pair of flip flops last year for $2.00 that were brand new with the store tag and when we got home I discovered why they were only $2.00, they were 2 lefts. LOL

Just for the hell of it I looked up the company on the Internet and found out they were regularly priced $30.00. So I sent them an e-mail with a BS story that she bought them on vacation and didn't notice they were two lefts until she got home. They said send them and they would send her a new pair. So for another couple bucks postage she got a brand new pair of $30.00 flip flops.

That might not have been our best deal, but I was proud of myself for pulling it off.

I just went into a consignment shop on a whim yesterday, I have been lookingofr a formal dress to wear on our cruise and also to the Marine Corps Birthday Ball this year.

I found the PERFECT black strapless, floor length, satin gown with tags still on and got it for $29.99. I need to have it taken in a little, but it's GORGEOUS!

I normally don't like Goodwill, etc because you have to dig so much to find the good stuff, but consignment stores esp. in upperclass neighbourhoods don't have a "second hand store" feel.
