Good day VJ members,

I know that my question has been asked many times before but here it goes anyway. I so understand the difference between the Original and Certified but I was told before, that I can send photo copies to the NVC w/out DS-230 and for my husband to take all the originals for his interview. Is this not the case? We only have one set of originals for: Birth Certificate (his), Military Record and the Police Record...

Should I submit all the originals to the NVC along with our DS-230 or send photo copies and have my husband take the originals to his interview??? I did send all these documents to a company out here in California who especializes in certified translations for Immigration purposes and ordered two sets of each document. What if I send one of these certified translated copies? Will this work too?

Please advice I feel now that what I thought of behind ahead of the process may set us back now because we should of had 2 originals of all the requested documents... :crying:

HELP!

Thanking you in advance,

Liz and Mohamed

Read the document instructions from NVC and then follow them. Hint. Send originals or certified copies.

So we should have ordered 2 sets of originals on all our documents? Wished I would of known this way before...I don't understand if we are sending the NVC all the originals & the NVC will just be forwarding our paper work (case) to the Consulate/Embassy for their portion...why does the Consulate/Embassy need ALL originals documents all over again????

HELP!

A certified translation is not a certified copy... Unfortunatly, to be a certified copy means that it is certified by the country issuing the document... A certified translation just certifies that the translation of the document presented is correct, not that the document itself is valid..

You can check to see how to get another certified copy from the country issued, otherwise, you will probably have to send the originals... Send a complete set of photocopies of the package so you can get your originals back...

Where did you get the impression you needed two sets of originals. The originals you send to NVC will be forwarded to the Consulate. A second set is not required. Perhaps you're mixing visa categories as you research requirements.

I'M SORRY. Perhaps maybe I am mixing the K3 and CR1 process because I read where the Originals of all documents must be provided at the interview as well...This is how I arrived at this conclusion. Please, if I am wrong then correct me so that I do not ask my husband to get another whole set of originals.

THANK YOU...I do truly appreciate everyone's input.

Sincerely,

Birthcertificates, death certificates and marriage certificates that you may have in your possession are not originals. They are certified copies of the original which is kept on file with a vital statistics office or whatever agency keeps the original document on file.

So when we are speaking of certified copies, we are talking about a copy that is coming directly from(or made by) the issuing agency (the agency that issued the birth certificate), not a copy that you made.

You will need to send either originals or certified copies (which are sent to you from the issuing agency).

So i get this straight...no orginals are needed at the interview? http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...page=i130guide1

After the NVC or Consulate Abroad receives the above forms and supporting documents (which may not all be required to mail back at that time), an interview date will be scheduled for the intending immigrant at a consulate abroad. The NVC or the consulate abroad will send your relative a letter indicating at what time and day the interview is scheduled for, and of required forms that must be brought to the interview. Make two copies of each original document or piece of evidence below and bring them with you. Documents needed are:

Interview Forms / Items: 1. Valid Passport.

2. Original or certified "long" birth certificate. *

3. Original adoption decree. (if applicable)

4. Original or certified copy of the marriage certificate. (if applicable)

5. Original death certificate. (if applicable)

6. Original divorce decree. (if applicable)

7. Police certificate. **

8. Court record(s) (if applicable).

9. I-864 Affidavit of Support Form along with past 3 year U.S tax returns (or transcripts) and any other financial documents required. (see poverty limits here)

10. Court and prison records.(if applicable)

11. Medical examination information

12. Two passport-type photos (see specification) of the spouse or benefitiary

So they only need photocopies at the interview? I guess there is confusing and conflicting info. I'm probably just going to have my wife bring orgininals with 2 photocopies just to be safe. i dont want to be held up on it. Of course we have awhile before we are at that stage.

In the CR1 and IR1 cases, the photocopies taken to the interview are so that they can be exchanged for the originals. The Consulate generally does not need to retain the originals but they want to see them.

Here is says to give originals or certified copies AND a photocopy of the evidence sent to NVC. So all this is just backup then?

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Photocopy Requirements

In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents
