Mohammed has his AOS interview Tuesday at 10am and Hurricane Ida will be in New Orleans where his interview is to be. I don't know what to do as the Appointment Notice says if he's not there his application will be abandoned. I don't even know if they'll be open and a hurricane expected to be in their city that day.

I will call tomorrow USCIS and try to find out if we can reschedule at this late in the game, but i'm scared if we're not there and they do open what they'll do to him. We must leave early Tuesday morning to make it in time for the interview and it's dangerous driving through hurricane wind and rain.

Does anyone have advice or been in this situation before?

The weather forecasts are predicting Ida to come ashore as a strong Tropical storm. Some forecasts are saying she will not even be that strong because she has to pass over a lot of cooler water and face strong wind shears that actually tear a storm apart. Forecasters will have a better idea by tomorrow what to expect but if the current expectations are wrong and Ida does remain strong, you will receive sufficient warning from the news media to stay inside. If you are facing hurricane conditions so are the workers for the USCIS office. You can check the USCIS website for information about office closings so you may wish to do that tomorrow night and again early Tuesday morning prior to his leaving for the interview : http://www.uscis.gov . If the office is closed due to the storm - and USCIS workers also have to deal with the same weather you do - you will find the information there. If the office is open, then plan on attending the interview unless it is honestly dangerous for you to travel at that time in the weather. You can contact USCIS afterwards regarding rescheduling an appointment missed due to an event such as a hurricane.

Here is a link to the most recent up to date information on Hurricane Ida. You can read the advisories as they come out and that will give you an idea of what to expect. http://www.crownweather.com/?page_id=1184

Here is a direct link to the Office Closing information from the USCIS website: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00048f3d6a1RCRD As of this time all offices are listed as open for tomorrow. Here is what it says about weather related closures though: If an office is closed, or our customers are evacuated from their homes, due to weather-related events, USCIS will automatically reschedule all appointments until a time when it is safe to resume operations.

One way or another, you will be fine. Good luck.

Thank you so much for the info. The thing is we are going to have to drive 4.5 hours to get to New Orleans.. I live in Florida and even if it's good weather there, I might be driving through some bad weather to get there. I'm not sure what to do as I live in a Hurricane prone area and I know how bad the weather can get and how dangerous it is to be out driving in it.

I am calling them tomorrow and will keep a check on their site to see if the office is closed, but even if it isn't that doesn't mean the weather i'm traveling through to get there isn't dangerous for us. :(

I hear you - that will be the area affected. From looking at the current forecasts the effects of Ida are actually going to be crossing New Orleans and area tomorrow and by Tuesday the rain will be pretty well over with a lot of wind left over. Certainly there could be flooding - coastal areas are being alerted to flooding - and that may very well have a major impact on you. If you have to go through the storm or through storm-damaged area then you should be able to reschedule without a problem. Good luck.
