Please help us! My husband submitted the I-130 on the 17 of August and the I-129F on the 17 of September. Our case it is still in initial rewies in USCIS office, and has not yet been sent to the NVC. My questions are: what should I prepair during this time, in anticipation of the next phase of the process? Should I collect the police records from the countries i have lived in? Can I schedule an appointment to do my medicals now? How long will these documents be valid for, as i need to have many of them translated? Are the documents valid for 3 months or more?

In all honesty, since the submissions are still recent, I would only make a concise list of what is needed at this time. Do the research on how to get the items (what offices need to be contacted, fees, certified translators, how to get documents certified in each country, etc.). While policies vary from Embassy to Embassy, most do not accept documents/exams that are over 90 days old. Just have your list ready, so that when the time comes, the legwork will be done. Good luck!

For one forget about the I-129F and concentrate on the I-130. K3 visas are pretty much obsolete and dinosaurs at this time.

There are things to do but nothing you need to rush. Probably the first thing to do is begin wishing you never filed the I-129F because it has already delayed your process 30 days. Then you can resolve to ignore the I-129F and press forward with the CR1 visa.

Thank you very much everyone for your advice.

Does anyone know how long an application seats at the USCIS before it is send to the NVC. Is it a good or a bad idea to make constants phone calls to the USCIS to see if any progress is being made on our application. Thanks you.

It will take as long as it takes, typically from 45 to 120 days. Calling USCIS harms nothing but your pocketbook for the call and helps absolutely nothing. We don't call it the misinformation line for nothing.

Start studying the CR1 Guide and the NVC shortcuts. It will be a far better use of your time.

It seems now the USCIS is much faster than in the past...even a few months ago. It only took them about 3 weeks to approve my I-130 and I-129. So the past timelines don't seem to me to reflect current time frames. Of course there are always exceptions.

good luck.

Hello Russell and Jenny,

Congratulations. I looked at your timeline and it looks like you are having your K3 interview in about 90 days from the date you applied for K3. That is very good and all the best in your interview process.
