Has anyone who has been through this process in the UK, had their current employer contacted by the Embassy? I am assuming that they do, as you are required to put their contact details on one of the forms. I just need to know, as I only started in my current job a couple of months ago and on a three month probation, before they take me on permanently. I didnt tell them when I started that I was getting married and emigrating, as I did this at another interview and they wouldnt take me on, so obviously, I had to think of myself and get a job to save up some cash. I planned on telling my current employer my plans after christmas and after the three months was up, so I knew they would keep me on. Only now, things are moving fast and I have been sent the letter from the embassy to fill in the forms already. Im guessing at this rate, I will have my interview before christmas, as its just a matter of me sending this all back to the embassy now.

Basically, I would just like to know if anyone else has had their employer be contacted by the embassy. Just so I can either talk to my manager before, or put off the process until after christmas.

Any advice, greatly appreciated.

There isn't a need for the Embassy to contact your employer. You could be unemployed and you are still eligible for the visa. Security checks will investigate your background but I have never heard of a beneficiary's employer, especially in a country like the UK or Canada or Australia, ever being contacted. What would be the reason? Regardless, I believe Privacy legislation would prevent your employer from discussing you or releasing personal information to anyone without your permission anyway.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks for your responses...

I see your point, why would they need to contact them? But, why then, do we have to fill out our current employers address and phone number, plus our two previous employers, including contact name and phone number? It just seems strange to me, for them to require that information, if they are not going to contact them. But then again, alot of this process is beyond me!

Thanks again

As far as I know its just apart of the background check process to have the employment info. Perhaps under certain circumstances they might call but i've never heard of them doing it either. In theory though some may never have worked in their life and so its empty...that's okay too, they simply have less ways of verifying who you are I suppose.
