At least not much worse than before the shooting.

Probably not, but it's gotta be tough for Muslims (esp of Arab descent) serving in the military, however few & far between their numbers may be.

Muslims of Arab descent shouldn't be allowed to serve in the military on grounds of national security.

They already get additional scrutiny when petitioned for visas.

BTW, did the shooter shout that allah akbar slogan before shooting or not? CNN could not confirm

Doesn't matter. They should not be allowed to serve while we're waging war in their countries

against their men - conflict of interest and all that.

:wow: Oh that's really advanced.... like interning Japanese and German citizens during WWII...

It's really not because I'm not advocating interning anyone.

There is, however, a clear conflict of interest in allowing Muslims to join the military and fight their Muslim brothers.

I wouldn't have any problems with Muslims joining if we were fighting a war in China or Korea.

There have been other similar incidents over the past few years; as I recall one did involve a practicing Muslim (SGT Akbar), but another was a latino (SSG Martinez) & several incidents at Fort Bragg involving white service members killing other service members. In each case there were warning signs that were missed or ignored & IMO that is the key here (i.e. not whether or not a Muslim was involved).

In world war II many Germans were Christians as were Americans. I suppose all of the Christian US soldiers should have been rejected.

A xenophobic stance on such an issue (e.g. not allowing Muslims in our military because of a few tragic incidents) would create more problems than it fixes. For one you need interpreters & the best interpreters are native speakers, because not only do they have a better mastery of the language they understand the culture. Secondly as I pointed out there have been other similar incidents involving non-Muslims, so to single out Muslims would be inherently misguided.

Cut the #######, man.

Do Christians take up arms and fight holy wars against infidels when other Christians are attacked?

Yet a simple caricature of the Prophet Mohammed inflamed the entire Muslim world - in countries

as different and distant as Indonesia, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

That's a pretty dodgy thing to say to be honest - not unlike suggesting that if we were at war in Africa that we shouldn't allow blacks to serve in the armed forces.

So hire the interpreters, just don't give them guns and force them to choose between their heritage

and their loyalty to the American cause, because you might not like what they choose.
