Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is a very elementary question, but just want to make sure I avoid any future complications. It appears to me, in Thailand, Miss, Ms, Mr or Mrs is used before the first name, as if it is part of the name !?

I sent in our I-129F a month ago, and on the form I did not include Miss for her first name. We have now started filling out the other requied forms (DS-156, 157,....). On form DS156 question 7, it asks for first and middle name as it appears in passport. Well, she does not have a middle name, but in her passport the word Miss is shown before her first name (e.g. Miss Koi). So I don't know whether or not I should continue not including Miss in her first name as we fillout the remaining forms (of course, except question 7 on DS156). If I start including Miss, then there will be a mismatch for her first name on NOA1, 2, 3 records. Please let me know what you recommend. Thanks.

P.S. When the forms have asked for her name in native language, I have included naang saao (in thai alphabet of course) before her first name.

Possibly a Thailand passport thing... But her birth name is not Miss, so do not include it... Just use her legal first name (no middle name is fine) and last name

Ms. Miss or Mrs. are not part of a person's name (nor would Mr/Mister or Dr/Doctor, for example).

Thanks for your answer, which makes sense to me. But I wonder why Miss is included in her passport, ID card?

These are known as title of courtesy designations.

My wifes Thai passport also uses the designation of Mrs. because were married at the time of issuance. He Thai I D uses Miss even though she was married at the time it was issued.

I think it correct to say its the Thai way.

Thank you Ning. So my question to you is did you use Mrs as a part of her first name in the K-1 forms? (I129F, DS156, etc.)
