this was the largest they carry, its 12x15 when i measure it but in mm its only 390x295... the wierd thing is on the Canada Post website I dont find that chart, I do see the sizes as

Small - 15.2cm x 25.4cm (152mm x 254mm)

Med - 24.1cm x 31.8cm ( 241mm x 318mm)

Large - 25.4cm x 40.6cm (254mm x 406mm)

which isnt even my size! Lol. I'm so confused!! I guess I'll look at a few other places to see if I can actually find the right one.

I was looking and that size is for the expresspost cushion envelope

Think about it this way, and don't fret too much over it. But *don't* get the bubble mailer.

Think about a letter-sized manila envelope. Imagine it an inch thick stuffed with paper. Your passport. Whatever else.

You cannot put this amount of paper inside a letter-sized mailer. You can't put a manila envelope INSIDE a mailer of the same size. So you need one that's bigger. Not a few millimeters bigger, but a whack bigger. Use this guideline if you've got no choice but to get a purolator prepaid envelope or something. Big Big Big.

I saw someone with a half-size envelope, as in half a letter size. Um, nope. Not gonna work.

Remember: a whack bigger than letter-sized.

I went to my local post office in Ottawa and told her it needed to be 15X12 inches. She handed me a large envelope and said that this was the biggest they come. I remember that the P4 lists the mm and then the size in inches, but they don't add to the same. I took a ruler and measured the envelope myself and it was indeed 15X12 inches. I live in Ottawa, so I got the Regional mailer, as confirmed by the post office clerk.

In purchasing Xpresspost mailers at Canada Post, please note the following:

• The mailer should be the 314 mm x 394 mm size (12 inches by 15 inches).

• For return addresses in Quebec and Ontario, you may use a “Regional” Xpresspost mailer. All other addresses require a “National” Xpresspost mailer.

• The Xpresspost envelope(s) must be prepaid. The price will vary according to the mailing destination. Be sure to mention your return address to Canada Post staff.

• Address the envelope(s) to an address inside Canada. We cannot send completed visas to addresses outside Canada, including the United States. You must use the visa to enter the United States from outside of the United States.

• Mark the mailing label “signature required” to ensure that someone at the destination address has to sign for the envelope. This will ensure that your passport and visa, which are valuable documents, will not be left unattended.

So....I officially hate my post office but thank you whoever found out we can use the priority ones instead. I went to the main post branch in town (which sorts and everything) and they told me flat out that the size I need in expresspost does not exist (which is ####### cuz its on the website but whatever) so I had to get the priority mail one. Funny thing is when you hold the 2 up next to each other, they are almost the exact same size. Ah well, I have it now and I'm done thank god.

thanks for that info :) The only thing that makes me hesitate slightly is that it's dated 2006. It's quite different than what is included in the interview letters now. but that info should not have changed. That will help a lot!

k, I'm super frustrated. I too only got the 390 x 295 size. I don't have time during the day (I work during business hours) to run around from post to post to find one with the 'actual' size they require. But, like others posted, I measured it, and had them measure it at the post office, and it IS 12x15 (slightly over), so it should be fine, yes? I know someone mentioned they brought one like this to their interview and it was fine. Just wanting to make sure.

Mine also has the ski jumper on it  (p.s. the Men's Aerials World Cup team is kinda hot.. no?) :P

314mm x 394mm = 12.36" x 15.5".

I don't understand why they were so specific with putting both millimeter and inch measurements if they weren't concise equivalents.

I do recall someone saying that they got away with that size. Whether that was discretion used or a general rule that they accept it... don't know. But someone else did definitely get away with it.

Also, I folded mine. Hoping that's acceptable, but there was no way I was going to stand outside of the consulate for however many hours holding a massive sized envelope. I'm assuming they fold the damn thing too... so....

I believe the dimensions written ON the actual xpresspost envelope describe the total area INSIDE the envelope.

The dimensions on the Montreal P4 describe the total area of the entire envelope. So if in any more doubt, just take a ruler and measure by inch or mm the total area of the biggest xpresspost and wala! You have the correct measurements :)
