Hi,

I was just wondering if the administrative processing after interview applies to everyone or only to some male applicants (beneficiary) ? So far, I have only heard male applicants went through administrative processing.

Also, do you know approxiamately how many percent of applicants through the embassy in London have to go through administrative process after the interview ?

Thanks.

Went through the whole process, both NVC and London, without having to endure AP. One can only wonder the procedures and selection process behind it all.

It can apply to anyone; it is more likely to apply to people from high fraud countries, Muslims (especially young males) and people from Middle Eastern countries.

What I've noticed is that AP @ the embassy tends to happen sometimes to foreign students living in the UK. I think sometimes it's random, as well.

We went through AP at the NVC level. We think it was an FBI namecheck, since my fiance has a common name and when we Googled his name, there was someone else with that name who had had a criminal history.

Sometimes, I think it may be completely random.

My fiance is a student in UK from Nigeria. He interviewed on Oct 15, 2009. He was told to resubmit I-134 from co-sponsor (which was already delivered to Embassy) and his passport. We were told numerous times 10-15 business days and processing would be complete. However DOS told me it is administrative processing when that was not indicated on the blue form he was given at the interview. I thought all they needed was I-134 how in the heck did we get put in AP???????

II. ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW

"Administrative Review" refers to a Consular Official placing the case "on hold" because the Visa Petitioner or Beneficiary FAILED TO PASS the security name check or background check, or because the Consulate or State Department or Homeland Security NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE some issue or matter in the case more closely. Cases placed into Administrative Review can ADD WEEKS OR EVEN MONTHS to processing time and final decision on visa issuance, typically in most cases AT LEAST 4 to 8 weeks additional time. Under current regulation, there is no right of appeal within State Department or Homeland Security for administrative review status. It is suggested that visa petitioners and beneficiaries keep track of the status of their case as best as possible, and secure, if possible, the reason or reasons their case has been placed into administrative review, which at least helps to relieve some anxiety during the waiting time.

My fiance's had his interview on Jan 5, 2010. The CO told him all is good regarding his application, but they have a new procedure that requires them to do further AP on his app. She told him he will hear from them within a week or two, however I called DOS, they said it will be several weeks. His case is in DC. The CO gave him a white slip that reads as follows " Section 221(g) and underneath the box checked reads: Your application requires administrative Processing. Our office will call you as soon as this process is complete. If you do not hear from us within 10 weeks of your application, you can email the embassy to check on the status of your case"

Does anyone know what this might mean. They did not ask us for anything more than what we submitted? what would it be?

Thank you,

No, it applies to females also as we have been answering some questions in a recent thread in the Ukraine portal for a female applicant in AP after her interview. AP after interviews is common in some consulates and much less so in others. It can be random or because something about your case triggers additional investigation

Thank you,

There are a couple of likely reasons that your file is in AP...

1) Heightened security measures from ALL countries in the Middle East as a result of the attempted bombing of the Delta Airlines flight in Detriot on Christmas Day, 2009

2) Your fiancee's name red-flagged when the background check was performed and they are re-running the name check (I have heard that background checks are now performed a moinimum of 3 times - USCIS, NVC and at the Consulate level).

Hope your AP clears fast and good luck!

Al

London is one of the "easy" consulates, but I can remember a few people who had to wait (and in some cases are still waiting). We thought we had noticed a pattern - if you weren't born in the UK, you usually got AP, but then at least one person bucked the trend...If any of these sound familiar, then you may find yourself in that situation.

You can follow it all in the London interview thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=168968

One was from Australia I can't remember if she was also a UK citizen...(female) and I think she had an overstay on a previous visit to the US. 2 months (+ a little) until visa.

Pakistani Student (male) - non-UK citizen: Several months' delay, new forms requested etc.

Indian Student (male) - non-UK citizen: No delay - visa rec'd 2 days later

UK citizen originally from India (female), missing birth certificate: 1.5 months to visa.

At least two Nigerian students (both male) were given a good grilling. I think the relationship failed on one before the visa was issued.

UK citizen from UK - issues stemming from alleged admission to alcohol abuse - be it flippant remark ("oh, I drink 30 pints a day"), misunderstanding of question (they asked per day, he answered per month), or had a really bad/good - but out of norm - night ("Oh, I had 20 pints at my going away bash last night")

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.
