I was told that my NVC has sent my case for "Additional Processing". Do people here have any ideas on now long a delay that generally can be? Our case seems very straightforward. Any ideas on why cases are held for "Additional Processing".

Thanks

They seem to have a name check list, ans sometimes just random checks. AP seems to be anywhere from 3 days to 4 or 5 weeks.:unsure: It is basically another immigration mystery!

2 days to 8 weeks. Dont' take it personal, It is not about your case at all. It is either random or one of your names tripped a red flag in some US or international bad guy list. They need to make sure you aren't THAT guy (or gal) By the way, this is where the G-325a comes into play, in case anyone wondered what all that is for. The more information you give on the G-325a the easier it is to sort out you from the bad guy.

AP can occur at any stage in the process which is why I always say DO NOT make any plans until the visa is in your hand!

They seem to be getting faster at processing these APs but they also seem to be happening a whole lot more.

I would think that the Department of Homeland Security would be checking for bad guys when they get the I-129f. I had assumed that this type of check was already done.

Must be the time I forgot that I still had a ham sandwich in my carry-on and customs caught me trying to smuggle a piece of ham back into the country. :-) I guess I shouldn't be smiling, because now they select me out for a special search every time I re-enter the USA. So let that be a warning to you all about finishing your sandwiches before re-entering the USA.

we were stuck in AP almost 2 months. Nothing you can do with that, just wait. Don't plan anything for now.

Holly Cow....you were smugling a hog's #### into the country?!?!?!?!:angry: ...shame on you :thumbs: those animals are dangerous and almost on the verge of becoming FOOD !!!!:thumbs:

Don't sweat, at least you weren't carrying a stinky fisk..just as Gary about fish...you will understand. LOL LOL

Anyway, the ham has nothing to do with it... if you ever had any security clearence check, guess what? your name is on the database, and they will check it twice, 3 times.. if your name is something like John Smith, guess what!... they will check it...no kidding now...if you have a smiliar name on the SNA database, guess what!...if you were in Vietnam...guess what. if you are a veteran, guess what...the list goes on and on and on....gotta love big brother....

I don't mean to bring you down brother, but here's the pitch....it can take a long a$$ time (2 days to 8 weeks, that's the way it is)...so in the mean time, get her documents together, meaning, BC translations, get ready for the interview as much as you can.

As Gary & Alla have said so many times, and I have to agree with them, Kiev is one of the easiest Embassy's you will have to deal with, as long as you have all yours ducks in a row.

Good luck..

Joe...

From what you are saying, the hold up at NVC is probably due to the fact that I am a retired U.S. Treasury Dept worker. I guess this must be for protection of my fiance, because I am not the one applying for the visa. If they are worried about me, it is a little late, as I already live in the USA.

I don't wish to dump a bucket of cold water on you, but...

namechecks can occur at every stage of this process.

see http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/Secu...tiveReview.html

have a LONG READ.

GOOD LUCK !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks for the link. I don't fit any of the reasons for additional security checking, so maybe my name is similar to somebody else - although the my combination first and last name is probably very rare. I guess it will remain a mystery. Maybe it has to do with my many trips to the former soviet countries.

I guess this will close out this thread. I called NVC's computer system today, and my case number didn't work, so I called the operator at NVC who informed me that the reason it didn't work is that my case has been forwarded to the embassy yesterday and it is no longer in their hands. So at least for me, AP must have only been a very few days. Thanks all for the responses.

Thats likely not a real case of AP.. Often the CSR will tell someone AP when the case is @ NVC but has not left yet... "false AP"
