larry ...

i was thinking just like becca here! i'm sure it meant so much to Sian that you were awake and responded to her sad text message with a {{hug}}. those are the gestures that go a long way ... you can say i love you a million times, but just showing it once can mean the world.

it is sad that her mother never knew how much in love she was in ... but it also shows how unselfish Sian is in that she put her mother's feelings and welfare first. that's a beautiful quality.

thinking of you and Sian today :luv:

My deepest condolences on your loss. (F)

As for what you can do for Sian, just be there. Follow her lead. I've been through similar grief and honestly, how I managed varied minute to minute some days. Show her patience and love and give her a safe place to just 'be', whatever that means to her. From the little I've seen of your posts on this board, you won't fail her...just be the person she loves.

Dittos. You da man. :)

My MIL passed away as we were making our final flight to the US---we didn't find out for a couple of days due to the travel and we weren't staying at our home & the message didn't catch up to us. It was devastating, for me because I just didn't know what to do, how to support this person I love so much. What can you say to someone who is suddenly an orphan.

Follow your heart. You *will* do the right things, I have faith in that.

Sorry for your loss. I work in a retirement home and I do mainly palliative care. Everyone I have seen it has been peaceful the struggle isn't but the end is very calm.

My AUnt also died of cancer and she fought like hell for a long time but when she finally went we had a funny warm feeling.

Years later I met my husband, and when I was contemplating ending it due to the distance and stuff, I went to her grave and the strangest wierdest thing. As I got out of the car, there was a tree right next to my door. I looked down and it said my boyfriends name (now husband) on a plague donated in memory of someone eles. I think my Aunt was trying to tell me something. This tree was about 5 feet from her grave.

Your MIL will always be beside both of you. GOD BLESS

Just got a text message from Sian. The funeral and "after-stuff" are done. She described it as very emotional and said that she loved me.

I really wish I could have been there with her....

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

She just called me. She said there were about 40 people there. Her Mum and Dad have a few friends on the island who were there, of course. Some others flew over from England; old neighbours they'd had and such. Sian stayed at the house while the rest of them went out drinking. Sian did that last night, and has sworn off alcohol for the rest of her life now.

The funeral was rather short, it being Malta, 115° and 90% humidity. Also, Sian's Mum was athiest, like her, so no religious service was needed. Sian's doing her best to stay somewhat in control of her emotions, but I could tell she was on the verge of crying the entire time I talked to her. Jordan didn't take it well at all, I guess. She said he wailed from the time the coffin was delivered to their house today until just after the funeral. It was his first funeral, and she was his favourite "nan", so it's understandable.

Thanks for all of the replies. I've been grieving in my own way, and the replies here have helped.
