Well - the visit was far too short, but we saw my brother off this morning as we left for work.

We toured a little of Dc and saw the Library of Congress, the outside of the Capitol building (as we all know, they were in session) and the tour line was ridiculaously long by the time we showed up at noon.

So we walked down Pennsylvania Ave past the Cdn embassy and found a spot for lunch. After which we hit the National Gallery of art and Arlington National Cemetary before heading home past the Pentagon.

Sweet timing passing the Whitehouse, the Presidential helicoptor was landing on the lawn just as we drove by.... looks like the Christmas tree is already up for next month's lighting.

Plenty of fun had by all - apparently I'll be baking if anyone wants to stop by - my brother bought 2 - 22 lb Club Pack bags of All Purpose flour down .....I said I wanted 2 large bags :) I'll specify next time.

Sounds like you had a lovely visit! I'm so happy for you! What kind of Canadian goodies did he bring you? Other than the flour....

KD

Tomato, Cr of Mushroom and Cr of Celery soup

Knorr Alredo sauce packets (just not the same here)

4 bags of Sour Cr and Onion rings

Ketchup Chips

Habitant pea Soup with Ham

PC butter flavour pancake syrup

Zehr's no name Cheez whiz (classy...I know :)

Is there a difference with KD and the cream soups that I am not aware of?

Montreal: BEAT!!! Approved!!!!!

kraft_dinner-300x225.jpg

but there is also a difference in taste...

oh and I just found out why they call it Kraft dinner in Canada..

The ultimate Canadian comfort food is Kraft Dinner- called Macaroni and Cheese in the States but according to Wikipedia there is not enough real cheese in it to use the word legally in Canada-

It was originally marketed as "Kraft Dinner" in the U.S. but for some reason it got changed. It's the same with words like "washroom." That was used a lot in the U.S. up until some point where it vanished.

Hence the Cdn adaptation - ####### dinner (again...classy I know)....kind of like Crappy Tire (aka Cdn Tire) :)

I did notice that the Cdn Krat dinner is REALLY orange....I may be glowing in the dark after eating it last night....but man, does it taste so much better.

For Mal - yes, there is a diffrence in the cream soups (and tomato)...I'm lookiing at the ingredients for Cr ofMushroom and most are the same, but the US version has sugar...which the Cdn version doesn't and the Cdn version also lists wine and additional dried mushrooms among the ingredients.

Definitely a different taste.

Before heading to the gym, I saw this thread, THEN a lady at the gym had on a krafts macaroni and dinner t-shirt, so all the signs were there--KD and hot dogs for lunch today!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I wonder why my husband doesn't taste all of these differences. Maybe it's because he's a pig and he likes everything (love you babe :luv: ), or maybe it's because his taste buds are shot. The only thing he's ever mentioned tasting slightly different is Heinz Ketchup and he even said that's not a huge difference.

We're going back to Ontario on the 20th for a weekend visit - his first since moving in August. I'll be curious to see if he wants to bring anything back. I don't think any of you live even remotely close to us or I'd offer to pick some things up for you.

I think I'm just a particular (read picky) girl.....I'm the kind of person who smells everything before I eat it :) I love to eat in general, but I like things to taste a certain way. My husband (the USC) notices less then I do...but he was pretty happy with the Cdn KD last night too

I knew I've seen Ketchup chips here in the States. Herr's sells them. www.herrs.com You can order them online if your area doesn't carry Herr's chips (or you could ask someone who lives in a Herr's area to ship you a bag to try.) ;) A case of 12 5.75 oz bags is around $27...
