I'm so excited, my little brother (who I haven't seen since Aug 08) will be here in VA in about 2 hrs and on top of it he has a sh*tload of Cdn groceries with him :)

The border was super smooth at Buffalo around 8:30 am today - only 1 car ahead of him. The BG only asked whether he had fruits, veggies or meats with him and when he said 'only dried and canned goods' they let him through no problem.

YAY!

Udella&Wiz....Yummy! Enjoy your Canadian foods and enjoy the visit with your brother too!

You're lucky to have a brother like that to help you stock up on such items!

(lol..and yeah, the border guards are pretty lenient when it comes to Canadian food....just don't declare smarties..that's another story..lol...)

Lol..There will always be a smarties/rockets debate! And Canadian Smarties will always win...lol....

Canadian Smarties=Chocolate candy that comes in different colours in a box...yummy....

Rockets/American Smarties=Rock-lhard ike candy that comes in a roll and shaped like tiny pills...yucky..

As for declaring smarties over the border...

Did that once when I bought a couple of boxes on a trip to Canada

When the US border guard asked if I had anything to declare on my way back home to the USA

I said that I smarties, which are chocolate candy....

They had no clue what I was talking about...

(and had that "I'm going to send you to secondary inspection look...")

So I gave them the box to look at and inspect

(and they read what was on it...)

And then gave me back the box....

Then they let me back home to the USA....lol....

Bottom line: Not worth the hassle to declare such..lol...Just confuses them.....

Then there was the time that I had to declare the snow shovel and lawn chair...but that's another story...lol.

Hmm..maybe I should start a seperate thread about this....

Well - the visit was far too short, but we saw my brother off this morning as we left for work.

We toured a little of Dc and saw the Library of Congress, the outside of the Capitol building (as we all know, they were in session) and the tour line was ridiculaously long by the time we showed up at noon.

So we walked down Pennsylvania Ave past the Cdn embassy and found a spot for lunch. After which we hit the National Gallery of art and Arlington National Cemetary before heading home past the Pentagon.

Sweet timing passing the Whitehouse, the Presidential helicoptor was landing on the lawn just as we drove by.... looks like the Christmas tree is already up for next month's lighting.

Plenty of fun had by all - apparently I'll be baking if anyone wants to stop by - my brother bought 2 - 22 lb Club Pack bags of All Purpose flour down .....I said I wanted 2 large bags :) I'll specify next time.

Gah, I lived in the US for 4 years I believe and have never ever ever ever ever found ketchup chips -- which I grew up eating in the Philippines. When I asked my American friends where they get them, they give me blank stares and say, that sounds gross. :o Its super yummy!

I can't resist - so that was obviously 'Canadian' bacon :D
