Hello all,

I divorced my Colombian wife 5 years ago after she split, and 2 years later I recieved notice from the then INS that she had filed a petition for removal of conditions from her visa. At that time I met with a consular officer who told me that he would recommend denial of her petition due to the fact there was no grounds for it. Well, here it is 3 years later and I am attempting to find out what happened with her petition. I have met someone new while working in Medellin and we want a new life together here. My immigration attorney has told me it is important to find out what happened with my ex-wife`s petition. I have called the consular officer that I had met with before, but I cannot find the case number, and he stated he couldn`t help me unless I had it.. Does anyone know how I could go about locating the case number solely by using her name? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :help:

If you know her alien registration number you can call USCIS and inquire. This number is present on some USCIS notices. However you are walking on a slippery road when you request private information that do not directly involve you. Your wife filed for removal of conditions after your divorce. Any information regarding that petition is hers alone and you have no right to it.

Good luck.

Sorry,Scy,I beg to differ... Since this case DOES involve me,I think that I have every right to that information, and my immigration attorney agrees with me,stating that if USCIS did not come forth with the info,I could file for it under the freedom of information act. I do have an appt, with USCIS on the 21st, I`ll just have to wait until then to see... Thanks!

If your attorney says so then he must be right. The way I see it what you're doing is no different than if your former spouse requests that USCIS divulges information about future petitions you file for your new fiancee/spouse. She has no right to see any petitions you filed after your divorce, just like you have no right to see any peitions she filed after you divorced.

Good luck.
