So we drove to Philadelphia for an infopass appointment to file for the aos and ap. when it was our turn the lady just pretty much told us to mail it out. I told her I know of someone who did that, made an infopass got the ap a few hours later and their aos papers? The person from that uscis office took their paperwork and said they will file it for them.

Her advance parole was For her husband being stationed off to Asia. I thought we can do the same thing but the lady from that local office just said well ur not the 1st ones to try and do that., so we drove about 2hrs to gt there for nothing.....

Can anyone share their experiences about infopasses?

I have never heard of anyone being allowed to file in person since AOS is processed not by local offices; but by Service Centers. Sorry you drove for nothing.

Infopass is more for say, questions regarding the process, early biometrics, emergency advanced parole (which might be what your friend needed).

My friend didnt need early advanced parol. My friend drove to their local office and applied for the regular AP not the emergency one. The people at the local office took their AOS papers and filed them for them. She recived the AP an hour or so after and then they went home. What would qualify someone for emergency advanced parole.

Never heard of that.

Emergency AP is just that; a situation that requires the foreigner to return immediately to their home country such as a death or illness in the family. Evidence needs to be provided.

How long ago did your friends apply for AOS? When I applied for AOS back in 2004 local offices were still accepting applications and I sent mine to Atlanta. The process changed later that year so that all applications had to be sent to a common address instead and local offices no longer accepted applications. The same thing with advanced paroles and EADs. If your friends filed a few years ago they may well have been able to do as you tried to do. Unfortunately, that has not been allowed since 2004. It is a really good idea to read and follow the current instructions to save yourselves frustration and disappointment like this. Once USCIS (then INS) came under the umbrella of Homeland Security everything changed - and definitely not for the better.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
