i added my review ^__^

the head honcho is so nice and he talks to you like you know what he's talking about. he uses terms like red flag and other stuff that we talk about here on VJ. he actually makes a big deal about being approved so its not like some of the people you read about where they're not sure what the result was lol

he said that he's doing all that he can to blow through all the Ks and cr1 backlogs and the fact that he's working on the front lines convinces me that they do care about our lives and the impact that this process has on them. he said they've upped the amount of Ks being processed every day and that COs even work saturdays now.

No one believes me when I post consulate workers work weekends, lol We have friends that work at State Dept and 1 of them deals with immigration--refugees--and she works 6 days a week and quite often she doesn't get OT! Its come on or get a crappy evaluation come report time. They work their butt off.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi Missa, KnJ, and Cdn_gewels,

Congratulations on passing your k1 interviews in Montreal and thanks for sharing about your experience here on VJ.

Good luck with your POE experiences next and good luck with the rest of your immigration journeys too.

Welcome to America, Missa, KnJ, Cdn_gewels!... :star:

Ant

P.S. Lol..At this rate with so many of us immigrating from Canada to the USA....Will the population of Canada decrease? (just kidding..)

P.P.S. Hmmm...I wonder if immigration officials do read posts/messages/comments here on VJ? If they do, let's just hope that all this complaining about them will eventually get something done to help improve the system! (lol..wishful thinking, but you never know..)

INTERVIEW PASSED!! they didn't even look at our evidence. the guy interviewing is actually the director of the consulate and he reads visa journey

lgg, you're in trouble lmao! he gave me a message for you , he said " tell lgg that cr1 interviews will be comming for december shortly. he also said that people should try not to be mean to them because they all read visa journey and they get their feelings hurt

anyway, we passed, he knew who we were because of VJ and he loves people from VJ he said if we could have gotten gold starts for having everything we needed and organized he would have given us one.

ok FINALLY able to get myself sat down and posting :)

Approved!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOfraaakinWOOOOO!!

(this thread is hilarious! and I'm trying to type as fast as I can to give you all updates!)

Okay. So I duno if I should post my whole review in this thread, or just give highlights, like..

Yes, we had the head guy interview us as well. Cool, Missa, you interviewed with him too. He showed up at the window when we were giving documents to the nice lady and said "Karen and Jason? Ah, the famous KnJ from visajourney!" And told us we'll see him at the interview and chat afterward about VJ.

In the interview he was very warm and made reassuring eye contact and even said at one point, he is asking (whatever question) because he's supposed to be asking. Heh.

He was positive and constructive. He remarked to us that the people who come in and have used VJ are the most organized (he even gave nods to cdn_gewels for being the most organized they've seen, really  ), and that they really like doing K-1s and CR-1s because it is a happy situation. He did mention to me like he did with Missa, about the people who are calling them names, saying they're a$$holes (yes I believe he said that), and that they do read VJ and it does affect them because they're people, after all. They are very cognizant of how much our lives are on hold and in uncertainty because of delays and such, and they really are doing everything they can. He said in terms of receiving the visa, they are working overtime, he's bringing his people in on Saturday, to process visas. It was very reassuring to hear that, he said even though he doesn't want to be making people work overtime like that, they are doing whatever they can to speed things up.

Working SATURDAY. Wow.

In all it was an efficient, positive experience. I'll post a longer review with other details soon... I am moving *as soon as* I get the visa in the mail.

I'm so elated. Thanks to everyone for your support! I of course will be around, and continuing to post during the next steps in the process. I'll probably be scarce for the next couple weeks as I pack and move and settle in.

K

Hey Everyone!

I just got back from Montreal a little bit ago. I have family there, so we made it 3-day visit! All went well Friday morning. I passed the interview! Woo hoo! I work at 5 am tomorrow, so I'm gonna hit the sack, but can assure that I'll post my review hopefully tomorrow. I will say that I got there at 6:30 am and was first in line. The interviewer commented that it was 9:01 when we finished up and wished me a good day.

I do want to say - pay in cash! I over-heard another applicant at a different window who did the Scotia Bank deposit and she was asked to go to a bank to get money as they only accepted cash.

Night....I'll be back!

Ant, love your congrats :) I'm so happy to have gotten past this step. Onward and upward!

It was amazing how many K-1s were there last Friday. VJers are such a selective cross section of who is doing this K-1 & CR-1 immigration thing.

I think constructive ideas are useful more than complaining.

And maybe we can all encourage Americans to apply to work at consulates! I read that they recently went to McGill (and probably other schools) to talk to American students about Foreign Service.

The foreign Service is a great job if you like to travel. Wife has 3 members that wer in the Foreign service and they have seen the world! Not a great job if your the type that likes to settle down.

Lol...I never did the k1, k3, or cr/ir steps of the immigration game...so I have no clue how it's done this 'long' way!

(I went from a visitor's visa to the aos instead..umm..sort of took a risky shortcut there...)

Though I do like reading about such 'long' experiences here on vj anyways....and can understand how difficult it would be to go through such

Nevertheless, I agree...onward and upward! Onto the next steps. Good luck with your aos, then removal of conditions, then citizenship!

It will all be over before you know it...lol...

And yes, constructive ideas (umm..complaining?) is useful too!

So if any immigration officials ever read here..hope they can "construct" some good ideas and thoughts on how to improve the immigration system.

We are people, and not just case files and numbers! And at the end of it all, we just want to be with our loved ones!

Lol..As for working for immigration officials..Anyone else here on vj interested in such a job? You can make the system a lot better by working at such, indeed!

Ant
