congrats! It was posted on her a few yrs back that many of the consulate members read VJ. When i was in Mtl back in Dec 2004, the room was pretty full, so my guess is that relationship visas is only a small percentage of the visas they handle

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Pft, reading VJ > listening to prepubescent leaders screaming.

That's why I play EQ2 and not WoW. I work at a high school and all of the teenage boys play WoW. I haven't met one that plays EQ2 so I'm safe. =)

I clicked on your profile and was thinking, "where are all the pics?" And then I realized there is a photo album button under the timeline button. After being on this site for a year I JUST noticed this. Thank you!

I like the hammock picture btw :)

That made me LOL. I think I knew about the pics the day I made my profile.

And thanks . . . I like the hammock pic too.

I want some updates!!! :protest:

Um, updates from everyone else???

This whole thread made me LAUGH!!! They'll think I'm a big ole pile of Timbits then or a frog... and to be frank? I have no shame about anything I've said -- it's the truth! If,when, we get our interview they asked, LGG, what do you think about how the Consulate in Montreal is run, I'd tell them. After I received my approval slip, of course!

;)

Sides it's all testament to the fact that there's a whole lot of bone fide, honest and well-informed going on in this thread...

So... the rest of you guys?

How'd it go?

Awesome news, all of you! Congratulations!

It doesn't surprise me that consulate folks peruse VJ from time to time. I highly doubt they would base any judgments on posts made here, though. But I think, for the most part, this forum shows how many legitimate folks there are going for these Visas, and how much of an impact a consular official can have on a whole family. In a way, it has to be a great job -- you get to be the one person who definitively unites / reunites a family! I'm sure it has a lot of downside too, mind you...

ok FINALLY able to get myself sat down and posting :)

Approved!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOfraaakinWOOOOO!!

(this thread is hilarious! and I'm trying to type as fast as I can to give you all updates!)

Okay. So I duno if I should post my whole review in this thread, or just give highlights, like..

Yes, we had the head guy interview us as well. Cool, Missa, you interviewed with him too. He showed up at the window when we were giving documents to the nice lady and said "Karen and Jason? Ah, the famous KnJ from visajourney!" And told us we'll see him at the interview and chat afterward about VJ.

In the interview he was very warm and made reassuring eye contact and even said at one point, he is asking (whatever question) because he's supposed to be asking. Heh.

He was positive and constructive. He remarked to us that the people who come in and have used VJ are the most organized (he even gave nods to cdn_gewels for being the most organized they've seen, really  ), and that they really like doing K-1s and CR-1s because it is a happy situation. He did mention to me like he did with Missa, about the people who are calling them names, saying they're a$$holes (yes I believe he said that), and that they do read VJ and it does affect them because they're people, after all. They are very cognizant of how much our lives are on hold and in uncertainty because of delays and such, and they really are doing everything they can. He said in terms of receiving the visa, they are working overtime, he's bringing his people in on Saturday, to process visas. It was very reassuring to hear that, he said even though he doesn't want to be making people work overtime like that, they are doing whatever they can to speed things up.

Working SATURDAY. Wow.

In all it was an efficient, positive experience. I'll post a longer review with other details soon... I am moving *as soon as* I get the visa in the mail.

I'm so elated. Thanks to everyone for your support! I of course will be around, and continuing to post during the next steps in the process. I'll probably be scarce for the next couple weeks as I pack and move and settle in.

Congrats!

thanks!

From our experience, you guys will be well prepared and it will be a good experience. The waiting is the worst.

I think on the whole, the fact that they read about us is a good thing. As someone else on this thread pointed out, the fact that they have a context for us provides them with useful legitimate information, including that we're real people, dedicated to moving through this process and succeeding to get through and be with our sweethearts. I think they really appreciate our supporting each other to be prepared, organized, and make their job easier.

Now, I am going to pack and run errands and spend Thursday onward sitting by my mailbox

Congrats KnJ!

While I absolutely agree that there is no reason for 'name calling' here - some constructive criticism might actually help. When COs don't seem to be aware of their own regulations - maybe reading something here will be of assistance to them in spurring them on to do a little research (I am speaking in particular about reestablishing domicile and requiring an applicant that has a cosponsor to produce the tax returns of the joint filer, even though their own guidelines don't say that).

They do seem like nice people generally, from all the reviews I have read and certainly the guy who interviewed my Husband was very nice.

I would suspect if any of us had the opportunity to read a message board dedicated, in most part, to our particular place of work, we would certainly see a lot of stuff that might surprise us and - some criticism we would rather not see :)

I do feel a bit of a challenge going on here. You said the man told you cdn_gewels was the MOST organized? Hmm, I want to see if I can be equally impressive. I even ordered official college transcripts to go along with my employment information. I am planning on ordering everything in an accordion style folder by form numerical name (with coordinating tabs of course) as someone else suggested (I think it was JulyBride).

I would suspect if any of us had the opportunity to read a message board dedicated, in most part, to our particular place of work, we would certainly see a lot of stuff that might surprise us and - some criticism we would rather not see :)

True! I work in a high school and I can only imagine what the students and parents would say about the teachers and the administration if they had a forum to vent on!

Thanks for the update, and congrats!

On one hand, I think I'd be a little intimidated to be interviewed by the head honcho... but on the other, it's good to know that the person interviewing you truly knows their stuff, through and through.

I can imagine it's tough to read about how some folks here feel about our consulate in particular. No one wishes to be criticized for their work.

However, people criticize not because they just want to vent (usually) - they want to see change! It's reassuring, in most cases I can think of, to see that the COs can become aware of problems (and suggested solutions) so that they, the ones actually in a position to change something - might bring about a more positive process for those going through it. And, come to think of it, in some of the recent situations where couples were given conflicted information resulting in delays - being aware of inconsistencies can only be a positive thing, in my mind.

I will say, though, in this being such a very personal process for each and every one of us going through it, having someone approach you and say "hey, it's so-and-so!" sounds kind of endearing. It's nice to know that understand just how wholly consuming this is.

Good luck with your packing, KnJ! Hope you get that visa real quick. :)
