btw I wanted to ask you what does your name mean to you because I asked my Husband what is means and he says it's a really bad word and I'm never to say it.

hahaha! ohhhh the irony. his little glasses are very charming.

i'm sick. and it sucks. if i weren't sick i would want to go out for mexican food and a non-alcoholic margarita in a second, to paraphrase another thread here. that sounds bloody amazing. but i would probably frighten anyone and everyone i encountered if i left my house...i look even worse than i feel. ugh.

Hope you feel better Sandinista. Sowwy your feeling sicky pooh. Sending you some love. :luv::luv::luv:

For real he asked me where did I hear that from. I told him it was one of the VJ MENA ladies user name. He said that it means something really derogatory and I'm never to use it. So I'm curious what is it?

It's not a bad word. fallaha simply means farmer girl, although in Egypt you usually refer to people as falaheen (farmers) when they don't know much about something.

I asked my husband just now, he said that technically it means "peasant", but that in societal conversation it's an insult, meaning someone is ignorant, poor, dirty, knows nothing about how to dress well or deal with people in a classy way, etc. He said it's mostly used for men, though, and that fallaha is the female form.

Exactly and typically we do say it in jest to friends, etc. I even use ya ma'afin or ya ma'afina as a joke when teasing the twins...I can't imagine him thinking its bad.

Liv, did you spell it to him or say it? :P Maybe you mispronounced it...he might have thought something else. :D

I spelled it just like she has it written.

As for the documentary on Gaza it was an idea never a plan?

Thanks. I wonder why he couldn't just tell me that?

He might have a reason to be sensative to it. You never know. Typically joking btwn friends its not offensive but he might have meant don't go out yelling it in public or think its a cute nickname for a stranger, etc. To each his own...I know I love a few words that H hates me to say but they flow so lovely off my tongue when I'm frustrated!:luv:

Well he's not one to embellish and I know bad words are a big no-no with him especially when it comes time for us to have kids. So I was thinking about all what you all said about it while I was preparing dinner and I think I got it now. It's like saying the *N* word here. It's used among themselves here but nobody else better call them that. The literal definition means ignorant person but in societal context it has a much nastier meaning.

...sneakin on from work to say hi and hope ya'll have a great weekend.

Have a good weekend too honey. (F)

At first it seemed there were TONS of rainbows and smileys today, I almost thought people really 'liked one another' and I almost thought I was in another forum. Back to normal people back to normal

Hope everyone is doing ok. Im back to work at 6am. Wishing there was a tired smiley icon!
