Barring an unfavorable outcome, what is the normal ETA of the visa via DHL after approval?

I'm looking at prices for flights (I know I cant book until visa is in hand) But I'm looking for an estimate since our interview is on the 8th of Dec, I figured somewhere around the 22ndish we may have the visa. Sucks because tickets are just as expensive for one way then round-trip. Looks like even if if we do get approved I will have to wait until Jan to book a flight because the tickets are way expensive and they keep getting more expensive.

You can book tickets today if you want, you don't have to wait for the visa. Some folks pick up the visa at the DHL office in Moscow two or three days after the interview. Then, they fly out right away.

Judging from your post it sounds like you're not swimming in money so those aren't really options. You're best bet would be to have her fly around the 17th or wait until mid-January. (Russian holidays will be done by then.)

My wife waited about three months before she flew over. As said above... it doesn't sound like you're swimming in money so what I'd suggest is have her wait until May while you work your butt off for the next six months and then have her come here. Should take care of all your problems!

We are planning on doing the fly to Moscow and pickup the VISAs in Moscow bit. But the unknown time frame for pickup after the interview is the only thing that truly worries me. I'd love to just buy a ticket for the 12th, with the hopes that she can pick up the VISA on the 11th (4 days after the interview).

The other concern I have is it will be the middle of December, hopefully the 12th, when she is ready to fly. If we wait to buy tickets, they could be double what they are now; with it being Christmas time and all. It's such a complete unknown, I hate not being "prepared".

Katya and Denis are staying with some childhood friends in Moscow; and neither of us want her to be stuck there for over a week waiting for the VISAs; all the while being an inconvenience for her friend. It's better than having to buy a hotel room for the duration of the stay though. And if it drags on too long, over a week; perhaps I end up getting her a room for those few 'extra' days.

With all that complaining, the alternative is she flies back to Vladivostok for a few days/weeks; and neither of us want that. So I will just have to learn to love the idea of a 'last minute' plane ticket and look forward to seeing her on the 13th or 14th of December.
