That was my thinking exactly....we can't afford a car until he gets a job.....I thought we were lucky because within walking distance of the house are TONS of job opportunities......we filled out applications for about 30 places (no lie) -- he only got one interview -- at Target -- got the job.....but he hasn't worked since the beginning of August.

I put Davids resume on career builder....we have all kinds of riff -raff calling him for work  Boy is he ever excited and thinks he's the shitterlings... I was hoping we could interview and land something during the wait. The last place and I wanted to so badly tell him that he dosen't want to go apply for dat job, but like we all said, we have to choose our battles. This place wanted him to go door to door selling stupid stuff..like fan and gadits and such.:angry:

Okay I keep on getting bad news after bad news. Dwain's dad is now in the hospital he did not eat for a week and is getting really weak. His mom said Dwain is really sad. His dad has altimers and Diabetes. He has big open sore on his feet. We think his days our out number. This is not how I wanted to go back to see my husband. Please keep us in our prayers. We really wish he will get better. His mom is taking it hard since they have been together for 25 years. And she is now living in the country and doesn't want to live alone and Dwain is her only son and he is moving soon.

:help: When we get the Cr-1 Visa can we apply for his aunt (who is really who he calls mom) to move up here to live with us so she won't be alone? I am afraid she is going to fall into depression. When his dad passes there is no more money because they are living off his retirement money I call it. So I am worried.

Congrats Kelly and Craig!!! (L)(L)

Well.....they can review the DMV guide and take the practice tests but they will not be able to go get a permit until after the EAD and adjustment of status arrives..(At least per Califonia law)...He could not even get a darn DMV ID card with the I-94 so the License is out of the question until he gets the green card....:whistle:

Belly.....I do not think any of us have the extra money for a car or others things but we need to help transition our husband and make him feel like we are trying to work towards that. Even if it means that we save up $1000.00 and buy him a "bucket" that gets him from point A to point B....this will help with job options and allows for some extra income (just like Mindy said).

After Henry told me I waste too much time on VJ/online and called you guys weirdos  , I slammed our bedroom door 3X right off the hinge!!:blush: It's an old house, I swear. :innocent:

ROTFLOL :lol: My hubby dosen't think highly of VJ either :hehe::lol:

I do not think anyone's husband "loves" VJ....mine keeps telling me that we just "chat too much" and we "tell too much business".....:whistle::yes::whistle:

Congrats to Kelly and Craig!

So sorry Jax, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Lakes dad is also in the hospital, with diabetes. He is an alcoholic and has open wounds on his foot, and they finally admitted him. They are trying to save his foot, Lake is really worried if they amputate, cuz he says once they do that, usually no one lives in his country beyond a few months afterwards.

We are still fighting some kind of infestation here, I am beginning to think its some kind of strange parasite they just dont recognize here in America. Lake says he will ask a doctor next time he goes home, see what kind of meds he can get. I wouldnt wish this on anyone, its a nightmare. The dermatologist told us this week its just active dermatitis, from "post-scabies" but its been months, and I wouldnt think we would have any post symptoms this long. My poor moms vision is gradually decreasing by the day.

I am suspecting Lyme or severe candida (yeast infection) or some such odd thing, as symptoms are progressive with all of us. No way I could even work at this point. :(

My nurse called me after a blood test last week, told me to get to the dr, right NOW! My c-reactive protein levels, (I guess they measure infection?) went from 1.8 in March to 24.3 last week. It worries me. Dermatologist wasnt a bit worried tho. Said it didnt mean a thing.

Urghhh! Doctors!

About the car: My bad, guys. My suggestion was based on "all things being equal". That is to say, money is available somewhere. I'd say even if you don't have cash now, it might still be worth it for him to have the license....what if he gets a job offer that requires a license? Henry did receive such an offer; he turned it down, but atleast he has that option. We are eyeing two jobs at the hospital where he works and they both require a driver's license. So think about it, ladies.

Henry has the car note; not me. It took him about six months to get a job and when he applied for the car loan, he got a really good interest rate from North Fork. He is building credit (we want to buy a home after I sell mine) and he is learning that kind of responsibility and how things work here. In JA he has his own car that he bought cash and fixed on his own. He was very proud of that. He is very anti debt, but whatcha gonna do.

So if you can rustle up some cash for a used car (ours is), then go for it. If not, just use the license to improve employment options.

Picking your battles and keeping your mouth shut......Now that's something that we could all learn from......I find myself "jumping" before he finishes his thought.....he just looks at me and shakes his head.... :huh:I'm trying to get better at that too!!

 Head shakes... I getem all the time.

Guilty! That poor man is always asking me to let him finish.LOL

Oh my gosh!! I am so sorry to hear that!! All I can do is keep you, Dwain and his family in my prayers.

Same for you Jill, I am so sorry you are going thru all this with the skin issues and with Lake's dad. Take the nurses advice and go to the doctor. Don't listen to the dermatologist.

Okay.....my two cents worth......No, I don't think you are being unreasonable....BUT....you need to try to not sweat the "small stuff." Right now, the MOST IMPORTANT thing is his Passport. If he doesn't get that NOTHING else here matters.

That being said......if he can pick up his Passport next week -- let him drop off the DS230 then. Unless you live in Kingston it is a pain in the ####### to keep going back there to do everything that needs to get done. A few more days isn't going ruin anything. Nothing is going to be done when YOU want it done. And I think all the girls on here can agree with that ;)

I agree  The passport is most important right now. And, yes, the drive to Kingston is expensive and time-consuming. The more he can get done there at once, the better. And, no, nothing is going to be done when you want it done! I also filled out all the forms for my hubby - DS230, 156, 157, etc. - and all he had to do was sign them. It wasnt' that I didn't trust him to do it, but his reading and writing skills leave much to be desired and I wanted everything to be completely accurate.

so if you force tooo much on them.....they feel like "we" American women are too bossy or controlling...(at least this is what my husband has told me...not sure about everyone else....)

Tony accuses me of this ALL THE TIME  He says everything has to be MY way or no way. :innocent:

Also......I am not sure about your man but A LOT (NOT All) of Jamaican men have trouble with reading and writing so I can understand why the the DS230 may have been ultra confusing to him...That is why most of us completed it for our fiances and sent it to them.

 Yes, this is so true also. See my above post on this topic.

Picking your battles and keeping your mouth shut......Now that's something that we could all learn from......I find myself "jumping" before he finishes his thought.....he just looks at me and shakes his head.... I'm trying to get better at that too!!

I'm still working on this too :innocent:

One day Henry looked over my shoulder and said "yuh nah tired broadcast yuh business to dem invisible people!!:lol: My honey really treasures his privacy.

This is a JAMAICAN man thing  Tony hates it when I talk about "his business" to anyone (my mom, my friends, etc.) I have to vent to my family and friends - if not I will go crazy!:hehe:
