Help me out!

I am helping someone file K1, and I referred them to the K1 guide from this site, but now with the new IMBRA laws I don't know what else to include.

For recent K1ers: do you wait for RFE (IMBRA) or is there a form/guide I should send to filer also?

Thanks

Let your friend know that she/he files with the new I-129F which has already been updated on the USCIS website...it should say "Last Updated on May/?/2006" (not sure of the specific date)

Thanks!

I waited for the new forms and still got and RFE. I sent it in and they had already processed the application. They will just have to wait and see if they get it or not.

Good luck Elizabeth and Henry!

Congratulations Jax!

He's seeing that life here in the States isn't as easy as he thought it would be.

Craig and I just had this conversation (again) today about how it is here....about money, finances, etc....and he's like, but everyone here in the states CAN afford it (speaking of our price increase for our electric bill). It almost went up 75% !!! but they (the government) just put it through for 15% and then every year it will increase. I was like, Craig....you haven't even seeeeen the areas where folks can't "afford" to live like we do and trust me, we're in a apartment (not a house), but we live in a "nice" area. He loves it, but thinks eeeeeveryone is rich and it drives me crazy. Meanwhile, he's taking the bus everyday to and from work and I keep reminding him that not everyone here in this state is "rich" we ALL work hard every day. I think he's finally "getting" why we (here in the states) go to Jamaica ON "vacation" to chill out and relax!!!! and then I HAD to laugh when he said, ya know....I need a vacation!!

Craig came in the door last night...."freezing" and it really wasn't that cold. He said, I'm going to die when it really gets cold outside. He's checking the weather in the morning now before he goes outside.

It doesn't matter how much we tell our guys (and gals) the differences between Jamaica and the states, they will never really get it until they come here and experience life here themselves. All of us live in lots of different areas and I tell Craig that some of your guys just can't get on a bus and go to work and live far from places that they just can't walk to the grocery, liquor or restaurants.....he of course, doesn't believe me....

JAX, trust me ......you do NOT want to go through a pregnancy "alone". Been there, done that and it sucked!!!! I've been a single parent for 12 1/2 yrs. My sons father chose not to be in the picture and has no contact whatsover, oh except for his birthday card Dec 5th (maybe) and/or Christmas card....that's it. Craig LOVES the fact that he gets to help with my son and we've been watching ALOT of my sons baby videos because he wants to see him how he was growing up.

Have a great day everyone !

Kelly

We still have that conversation a bit, about how poor some folks are. I think Lake believes me, but he just would never believe the reality of it. That was the biggest misconception in his country too, that once you are here, money just FALLS into your hands. He HAS been disabused of that notion for sure.

Kelly, you can tell Craig, OUR bus service stops at 7 in the evening, and the NEAREST grocery store is 2 1/2 miles, and WE are in the heart of the capital of Nebraska, a city of almost 300,000. No way you can survive here without a vehicle or scooter or SOME mode of transportation, unless you want to take a job paying 5.50 an hour, which is the nearest fast food place, about 6 blocks away. Or if you live downtown, work downtown, and take a bus to the grocery stores DURING the day, which are NOT downtown! Everything is so spead out in the midwest, its hard to believe.

Oh to answer an earlier question, Lake was probably the MOST surprised about when he came here, was in the grocery stores, we have a gazillion products that all do the same thing. He couldnt believe the shelves. He says in his country, there is one toothpaste, one shampoo, one type of soup, one type of sugar, etc. He was SOOO confused over all the choices! Now, I think he really likes that aspect tho. I would love to hear what he tells them back home.

One other thing, is EVERYONE drives everywhere here. It would be in the middle of the day on the way to class or whatever, and he would marvel...WHERE are all these people GOING all the time?

Oh and the BAD thing is...no one walks around the neighborhood like they do back home, absolutely everyone is out all the time there and even in the summer here, most folks here are not outside too much, just to do yardwork, or watch the kids play, and everyone goes in by about 8:30ish. He says thats just when folks get going at home. It seems to ME we have a lot of people outside, or walking, but compared to the Caribbean, yeah, it probably seems deserted!

Oh and good luck to Elizabeth and Henry tomorrow!

Ok, I may be overstepping here, but why would you want to get pregnant before your man even gets here? I would not want to be alone through a pregnancy. The stress of Immigration and all that is enough to deal with in itself. Tony has been here about 2 years now, and we're still trying to decide if we're "ready". Everyone is different I guess.

Rhonda and Kelly that is cool to speaking your mind I have heard it from everyone. But honestly what people say really doesn't effect us. I wouldn't be pregnant alone for long my hubby should be here soon and I doubt it will happen. We always have bad timing.

We know it will be tough him moving here but he already has a plan set. I understand your situation Kelly my best friend had here son 11 years ago and the father disappeared and never helps. But my honey is not going anywhere. Trust me we have been through a lot and people telling us what to do anymore we don't listen. Everyone use to be so mad that we were dating and engaged. But my parents gave in after 7 years. I have done everything right in my life. I graduated High School then got my bachelors degree and finally my Masters Degree. I bought my house and got married before I decided to have children. I am also 28 and very ready. My honey is more ready than me which is funny since he is the younger one. He has tons of friends here since he has know Elmhurst College people since the 7th grade so that is over 12 years of good friends. The only thing in our situation we have been together sense Jan. for 9 years and we are definitely ready. If I did get pregnant it would be only for 2 months alone. I have been checking time lines. I get work off for 6 weeks and if I give into the sick bank I can have up to 4 months off.

I just wanted to explain maybe everyone won't agree but everyone has their own ideas and situations. Thanks for the input and advice  no hard feelings

Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier, Lake has been "freezing" for the last two weeks. If its below 75, he literally freezes to death, shivers, teeth chatters, etc.

We really wanted to go somewhere and do somethin this weekend for Labor Day, but the highs were 70, with rain and clouds, and I was cold too, so the weekend was a washout. But we did relax and had a good time at home. He really missed the fair, so sad, usually the last week of August and first week of Sept are sooo HOT. And we even had my sis buy us tickets for the ride passes, she spent $56 for us to go and we didnt get to, the two really nice days/nights, and they were on a weekday.

At least they didnt totally go to waste, sis and I went on one of those gorgeous nights, and strolled the midway, ate caramel apples, funnel cakes and went on the ferris wheel, the tilt a whirl, and the bumper cars, til we got a belly ache.

Everyone's got to do what's best for them. There may be many reasons why someone would not wait; for example health reasons and/or window of opportunity. And I'm sure some may have other reasons. I say whichever way you decide, do your own thang.
