Hope everyone is enjoying a nice long holiday weekend.

I thought this was an interesting fact as I just moved from the area that claims to have one of the highest % of Jamaicans by population. Here's the article:

JAMAICAN

In the 2000 census, 736,513 people in the U.S. claimed Jamaican ancestry.

ePodunk mapped the top communities by percentage of population. The map and the following list show communities in which 1,000 or more people listed an ancestry group, and in which at least 3 percent of those people said they were Jamaican.

The links at right lead to information on other ethnicities.

My current hometown (also where I was raised) has a very large Hispanic (Puerto Rican) population. Looking at other ethnic group on the above quoted site shows that large CT cities are quite diverse. I really like ethenically diverse areas as it kind of represents my own diverse background.

Very interesting statistics! Where is Blue Hills located in CT? I would have thought South Florida would have the highest ratio of Jamaicans.

How far from the MA border are you located?

Blue Hills is a neighborhood in Hartford. I'm sure that more Jamaicans live in Brooklyn and South Florida but according to this site; the ratio of Jamaicans are higher in these communities. Most CT cities are relatively small though.

I live about 30 miles from Springfield.

Anyone from NY go to the parade today? My sister inlaw says she is going to take me next year or her brother. The only way I could go is if I got pregant and could get time off of work sometime next year. She says I should go I wish sounds like fun. Maybe sometime we will make it to Brooklyn for that.

I've never been to the parade. It's on Labor Day so you could probably attend without taking time off work; but I would hate to be in your shoes to have to get back to work the next day B). Maybe next year we can all finally have that link up in NY for the parade on Labor Day. Just a thought...

I only pay though 25 a month with IDT to him and use the internet. Like I said the internet is a wonderful new age tool what would we do with out it.

Happy Belated Birthdays to Anna, Roy, Jill, and Lake and many more cha cha cha

Calisteph - Welcome to the yardies thread and best wishes on your visa journey

????? So none of you applied for dual citizenship???? My friends who are training to be immigration officers told me to apply for dual citizenship. They said once my hubby has lived here in the states for 6 months I can apply. They said it would be easier when I come down cause they wont ask me so many questions and I can bring in goods care free for the family. :D They start working at the MoBay airport in October so they said I can get special treatment to tell someone when I arrive that I now them and want to be checked by them and say I need to go to X,O, or P immigration officer and they will stamp my passport and let me go. WOW this will be wonderful in Dec.. I hope it is true. I waited in lines for up to 2 hours last time I came down and the no air thing was a killer.

:help: How long does it take to get your first receipt on mailing in the I-130??? It has been 2 weeks now. I think I need to go to the post office and do a name change for my address to. since I sent the paper work in with my new last name. The only other thing I have changed is my bank account. I hope when I change my drivers license on Friday I don't need the raised seal one yet.

Everyone take it easy on this long holiday 3 day break.

One Luv

Jax (L)(F)

Tell me more about the benefits of dual citizenship. Do you pay taxes in both countries? Are you allowed to work, buy a home? Where are the laws, regulations, and proedures for doing this?
