I am talking to him right now as he gets ready to go into another interview right now.....and he has another one scheduled for tomorrow.

Well....they offered him the job -- not the waiter job but the buser job.....$5.00 per hour and 1% of tips from the bartender......WHAT THE H#*% ARE THEY THINKING??? The bartender would have to make $100 in tips for Roy to get $1.00.....not thinking so!! They wanted him to start this afternoon. He told them, "thanks but no thanks."

He has a better interview tomorrow. I give up

They lost their minds *kissteet*. And 1% on tips - cha!

Drew's interview was interesting...he went in for an administrative position and they tried to give him a totally different job. He had to check them and tell them that his resume states what he is seeking (and it does, I created it :P). So ol girl tells him to follow up in two weeks, as the position he wants should be open by then.

I'm trying my best to help out (sending resumes, being supportive, not nagging, etc.) but he is getting discouraged. We didn't get work permit until late July but he's been here since January and I know he is ready to work :(. I guess tomorrow we can check another staffing agency and see how that goes.

I know we have had a discussion about places to move in the past...I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas about living in North Carolina...specifically the Raleigh/Chapel Hill area??

I live in Raleigh - its a great place. And pretty diverse. But not a ton to do. Guess it depends what you like to do. If you want to raise kids, it is perfect. Great schools and activities. The job situation is pretty good as well. My fiancee just moved here and I work all the time. He can't get around w/o a car (which he can't drive b/c he dosen't have his license yet), so its pretty dead for him. My suggestion would be to check it out first. Spend a few 3 day weekends here.... see if it is the place for you.

I've been to two JA restaurants here. One is terrible. The other is good but not great. I'm really glad my man can cook :)

Just wanted to let you all know that our K-1 Fiance visa has been approved here, and now it's on to NVC and then to the consulate!!

CONGRATS  It won't be long now!!

Congrats

Any suggestions?

He has to ride through it. Most of our husbands went throught exactly what he is going through. To the woman, we have all had HUGE fights over these same issues...boredom, I'm a man taking $$ from a woman, you want to be the boss of me, i'm lonely, i'm broke, yadda yadda. I think with most of our men starting a GED class was helpful and gave some purpose and structure to their day. My friend Heather's husband got a bike and was riding around everywhere. But Henry refused to get a bike. With all his brothers tooling around in Explorers, he felt funny.

Anyway, hang in there. It DOES get better.

Where in NC are you? Charlotte?

Good morning peoples!! :D

I'm in Raleigh. Just got back - been traveling for work all week. He has an attitude about me being gone. Wants a dang massage even tho I'm the one who has been on planes and whatnot. He knows its my job - but it is extra lonley for him. In the light of North Carolina - I find this man VERY immature. Don't get me wrong, still love him to death.... but I've asked him more than once if he is actually 14.

Sigh...

I am actually taking off some time tomorrow so he can apply for his SSN. My brother knows people in construction and so after he gets his licence he could probably find a temp job in that field or something else. Trouble is, it sounds like he will have to quit after 90 days, wait for us to get married and then really for a work permit? Is that true? How long does that take?

Does anyone else just feel so tired? :(

but can you get a SSN with a K1 visa?

Once we actually started to talk he admitted how lonley he has been with me at work all day. He has nothing to do. No friends. No family. I said, "I'M YOU'RE FRIEND!". He said he knows that but he wants someone to talk to. Someone to grab a beer with. Someone to play pool with. Someplace he can actually WALK to (In NC you REALLY need a car to do almost anything - even go to the store). Any suggestions?

First of all, YES he can get his social security card right away. They advise you wait 2 weeks once he gets to the states to allow time for him to be in the system.

As for the other issues, me and Tony went thru the exact same things. We got him a bicycle which helped some so he could at least get around on his own while I was at work. I highly recomend that. As far as being lonely there's not much you can do about it right now. Once he can start working it will be much better - he can make friends of his own and having a job will occupy him. I think the first 6 months were the most difficult for us. Do you have any family - cousins, brothers, etc. - that he could hang out with? Just a thought. Also, I used to call Tony from work as often as I could and of course every second I wasn't working, I was with him. Hang in there - it gets better

I think with most of our men starting a GED class was helpful and gave some purpose and structure to their day.

Oh yes, I forgot about that. Very good idea. Tony started taking ESL (English as a Second Language) classes when he got here. That helped a LOT and gave him something to do 2 nights a week while I was at work. I was lucky enough to have my parents volunteer to drive him there since it was too far to ride his bike.

Thanks for that encouragement. I will look into the class. Someone asked what we do. I'm in HR and Learning & OD. My job is a MINIMUM of 50 hours a week. No OT. Good salary - yes. I didn't struggle for awhile - but all this travel and immigration has taken its toll.

My job is exhausting. You can see that the majority of my posts are super early or super late - because this is the only time I have time. And trying to learn how to be a good fiancee - here and present and energetic for my fiancee is a really big challenge. :(

Nite

I'm not sure Jax. I've never heard of anyone doing before it but it's worth looking into.

How's the cost of living in that area of NC? Culture and cultural diversity? Jobs?

Every winter, when it's freezing and snowing and the winter seems to last for 5 months, I decide that I can't stand living in New England anymore. That's when I consider relocating to warmer climes. Then I see the crocous' and daffodils popping out from the soil and I forget all about it B) .

I hope everyone has a great day and a nice holiday weekend. NYC yardies...anyone checking out the parade?

Tristan only has a cell; but I thought this post from Trinilad might be interesting for some...

QUOTE(Jamaica to CT @ Sep 1 2006, 06:27 AM) *

QUOTE(Trinilad @ Aug 31 2006, 08:47 PM) *

Thank God Cable and Wireless has that service that gave my fiance a US telephone number so we can sit on the phone for 2 / 3 hours a day without breaking my pocket.

My fiance Ordered DSL through Cable and wireless. Once DSL is installed she then ordered a NET Speak package . The Net Speak package is about $25.00 US per month and the DSL is about 30 US per month. On avaerage her bill with DSL, and Net Speak and her local calls come to between 80 and $100.00 US. When you get the net speak, you select a US area code. You will then have two phones in the home. One connected to the regular Analog land line and the other connected to the DSL modem. Just get 2 different color phones with different rings so you do not get confused. So when I call her on the Net speak phone, I dial a US telephone number with a 410 area code and therefore it is aand dial my phone number here which is a local call.So you can talk for as long as you would like for only $25.00 per month. You can see the calls accumulate on the online statement, but when you get your bill, you will only see the 1 charge of about $25.00. Last month my fiance made $85,000.00 JA in calls to me which would have been about $1,400.00 US. Her phone bill was only $85.00 US which included her local calls to Jamaica plus the DSL charge. Trust me, I pay that bill every month without fail. The rule is , she never use the line connected to DSL to make a call to Jamaica because then she would be making a long distance call. She can call anyone, anywhere in the US and it will never cost a dime.

I will swear by it. We have has the service since January 2006 and the average accumulated calls per month is about $60,000.00 JA. To make $1,000.00 US in calls each month and pay only $25.00 US for them, or should say $50.00 with the DSL is the best thing we ever did. In addition to which, when time comes for that interview and you show that consular office the list of calls made totalling $60,000.00 per month, they would have no doubt that this is real.

Happy Birthday Roy!!! Good Luck!

Hello

I'm at work as usual. I'm bored and tired. It's 3:30am here and I want to be in bed -_-

We're going through a stressful period right now. Tony is looking for a new job. The landscaping company he was working for doesn't have any jobs right now :( He hasn't worked in over 2 weeks and it's really getting to him. And then I've been working 7 days a week so I'm frustrated cause I'm working my butt off and he's complaining about sitting at home and being bored  I would LOVE to sit at home and do nothing!!!! :help: Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. If he doesn't find something soon we're gonna kill each other :bonk:

I feel your fustration. David dosen't really complain anymore. Now all I hear is I'm just not comfortable! I don't bother to ask, because I know what he means. I say don't worry, your time soon come, and you can pay the rent, the car payment, and anything and everything else you want to pay.

We got a HUGE electric bill last month -- Roy got a "tiny" check from Target that only would pay about 50% of the bill -- he handed me his whole check and said, "put this to the bill." It was sweet.....but.....he too feels bad that he can't contribute how much he wants to. All in due time.....then he can have it ALL!!:dance:
