Ditto! Things will work out. Are you having a boy or a girl?

Jonesie,

You are so special (just wanna say that.) I am not sure if I am having a boy or girl yet, my 2nd doc's appointment is tomorrow, but I don't know if they are able to provide me with that info yet. We want a little girl though, but I will be happy with whatever God has blessed us with.

I am about 11 weeks along now, and I am craving some ackee and saltfish, yam, fried plantain, breadfruit and dumpling. Where I live there is no Jamaican restaurant, store, NADA. I would have to drive to Chicago for it. And I actually plan to go down to Chicago but I just want to give the restaurant a proper notice, as I have full intentions to eat them out of business. I just don't want them to post my picture at other Jamaican restaurants with a sign that says " DONT LET THIS WOMAN EAT HERE. SHE IS PREGNANT AND SHE WILL PUT YOU OUT OF BUSINESS." I don't mean to do any harm, I just wanna eat, ya know?

Thanks MissJones (is Jones your maiden name, as it is mine?) (F)

All the best at tomorrow's appointment . I posted it in the 2nd edition of Yardies thread - I'm hoping for twins  whenever we get pregnant.

Everything you listed sounds good. And eat all you can when you go  Have some callaloo for me (I miss that so much :crying:)

The one restaurant we went to near my grandparents (about 45 miles away) didn't know how to make rice an peas to save their lives (it tasted like the Grace box mix to me), and the little JA market never has enough of ANYTHING to stay stocked. When we finally go back I'm bringing an extra suitcase so we can shop there, along with having MIL cook and freeze food for us to bring home!

 Thanks to all who have welcomed me here, and thanks for the congrats about the baby. (I am just now scrolling through and reading them now.) I have been so emotional lately, I feel a tear coming.

AlienUKGirl, congrats on your bundle of joy. Hey here is a question for you and your little one (and anyone else): patois or no patois. Lord knows I am still a beginner, but my husband surely will teach our child its Jamaican roots.

I am excited because even to this day I laugh at my hubby when he is on the phone yappin to his friends, so I can imagine how cute our child will be when it says its first "wa gwaan".

Jonesie,

Jones is my married name, I just couldn't do the mrsjones when I registered VJ for some reason. Oh, and I don't blame you. There is nothing like getting the REAL DEAL from JA. Thats why I am a little concerned about going to a restaurant here because my hubby said canned ackee tastes different from the ackee from the tree. I never tasted the canned kind, so I am little worried. (MMM, RICE AND PEAS) I am not sure where you are from, but if I go back to JA in the next few months I will pack a suitcase full of food and bring it back here and distribute to all. No one should have to endure this. Here is my plan: Buy, Cook, Eat (Eat Some More) Freeze, Pack, Fly, Distribute.

We have lots of Jamaican restuarants and grocery stores in our area. Some are good while others are terrible but we have plenty to choose from. We recently found a restuarant called "Jus Jerk" owned by rastas. The chicken is cooked on a open pit like in JA -- the best jerk chicken and festival out of JA. Damien says it's the best (and we've eaten at dozens of restaurants) besides the American jerk chicken I cook for him  I guess that's a compliment...not sure

We also to go to a restaurant called Caribbean Delight...he loves their ackee and saltfish and I love their oxtail.

We had a Jamaican day yesterday - started off with chicken from Jus Jerk and festival, then to the Caribbean grocery store to shop for Easter's dinner. Damien got two large HTB easter buns and cheese along with other good food. I got a small round spice bun with cheese which I ate this morning  The cricket match was on so we stayed to watch some of it...he was happy to watch the match with other Jamaicans. Afterwards, we went to the Jamaican ice cream store (they have flavors like sweet sop, sour sop, guiness, guineup, mango etc) for his favorite grapenut ice cream...it is very good ice cream, all natural. Then we went to the Caribbean club last night....we danced the entire night. Boy, I am still full and tired....

  We have to make a trip into the Chicago area too for food. I am going to pack a suitcase full when I come back and my mother inlaw is sending roasted bread fruit up with my dear hubby.

I stay away from this site for two weeks and come back and I am lost! Phew! So much is going on I do not even want to even say anything but hi to you guys. I have not forgotten any of you and for all of you starting this journey, I do hope it will be as much fun as it has been for Iffeisha and I. We are done for the next two years and I am still trying to figure out why it was such an easy process. All those sleepless nights for nothing.

But I will drop in ever so often to make sure I do not get cussed out.

Luv travlin-Keep the faith girl, you will know what to do when the time is right.

Good morning VJ family.

One of my worst nightmares happened this morning --Damien was in a car accident on his way to work. I have no idea how this man walked away without an injury. The car flipped over three times and landed on the driver's side...he had to break the window to get out. The car is totalled...I couldn't tell which end was which. Thank God he was wearing a seat belt or he would be flown from the car in the middle of a 4 lane highway. No other cars were involved...another car cut him off so he lost control trying to avoid hitting a tracker trailor. God is good. Damien still went to work and was worried about being late

Good morning Family,

I am on vacation this week and don't have to fly anywhere so I am in a particularly good mood. I went to JA seven times this year wheew!!!! All I am doing is walking around my apartment organizing and cleaning and making room for my honey. I cant believe that we got approved and he is really on his way!!!! :P (well, whenever we get the visa in the mail)

Anyway, I am fortunate because I live in NYC and there is plenty of Jamaican food here but I just thought that I would share a website called Sams 24-7.com. It has all kinds of food, clothing, music you name it. I hope it helps some of you get the things that you are craving. B)

Congrats to the moms to be! (L)

OMG you are too funny. Before he got off the ship and we were talking about all of this I would always bring up Stella....

I am 52 he is 34.....

That's not too bad  I've dated much older guys in my past, but never much younger than me. Since he's in his 30's he's probably mature enough to handle it. Good luck. And I'm still calling you Stella :P

I agree, that was a really good post. Everything you said was right on. It's funny because I have been living in JA with my husband for the past few months, and I am certain the roles will change when he gets here.

That's good that you can live with him for a while so you guys can really get to know each other before he comes here. How do you get time off work? I wish I could have stayed in JA for longer during the Immigration process, but it just wasn't feasible for me. The longest I ever stayed at one time was for 2 weeks
