hi there wehave our interview on the 27 of march question.... when sean gets to the embassy he has to pay the 100 fee before he goes in for the interview? then where is it that they send him to pay after the interview? i read somewhere that money has to be paid after the interview down the block in walking distance from the enbassy.

The instruction form that is sent out in the packets is for both the K-1 and the K-3 Visa's. That's why you need to do your research and pay attention to what you really need. You have VisaJourney to help you - that's what it's here for. Do not rely on the Embassy.

I guess us "old timers" -- the ones who all filed and had interviews in Summer to the end of 2005 know all this stuff. We had the "luxury" of having people go right before us and tell us what was right and what was wrong. We all did a ton of research and shared openly what we would find out and we sent each other copies of the paperwork from the Embassy -- what we weren't sure of, we did both ways just in case. It's only paper and takes a bit more time to gather. "We" were never quite sure of what "trick" the Embassy was going to try to pull on us so we all went to our interviews 100% prepared -- and we all got approved the first time out.

The "Instruction Sheet" you get from the Embassy (Packet #3) is for all Visa's -- not just the K-1. They never bothered to update it. I brought EVERYTHING with me to the interview -- everything they asked for on the Instruction Sheet JUST IN CASE.

The fee for the K-1 is $100.00 payable at Paymaster before the interview.

The "profile" photos were replaced with "head on" shots the summer of 2005. If you ordered your paperwork from the USCIS (and not just downloaded it) you would have received the revised photo requirement. I did that in March of 2005.

All your forms should be typed -- just to make it easier on the people who are looking over them. Why would you not? Maybe I'm just too ####### but why would you intentionally make it harder for yourself or for the interviewer? Look at the amount of papers these people need to go through -- you might think your handwritting is excellent but to someone else it might be hard to read and that would just give them a reason to give you a hard time.

If it specifically says to put N/A -- do it. If not, use Not Applicable.

I'm sorry if you all think I'm a HUGE B*&$# but it breaks my heart to see some of you not getting approved for things that are really easy to deal with. They never asked for 90% of the paper that I hauled down there but I wasn't going to leave that Embassy without the approval. I worked too hard, lost too much sleep, cried too many nights and missed Roy more than I could ever put into words....this interview was the MOST IMPORTANT thing in my life and I did everything in my power to make sure we got approval.

It's not easy. The Embassy is not fair. But if YOU do everything in YOUR power to give them what they are asking for there is no reason you will not get approved. I'm shutting up now

Can you go a day or two, or even more, in advance to paymaster to pay it? And do you have to pay for the delivery or do you have the option to pick it up?

ok. as said before you need to go to a paymaster BEFORE the interview!!!! you need the reciept at the interview because basically you are paying to have the interview NOT the visa....AFTER you are approved they will give you a piece of paper you go over to airpack and i think it is like 11 bucks US dollars and i am pretty sure you don't have a choice they will deliver it to you!!!!!!

To reiterate as to what Jonesie, Mindy, Rhonda and Shauna have all said......ladies (and/or if we have any men that are newbies)....

My suggestion.....have a file in your computer (or print the information and have a file) --I have both....name your file

VJ info and everything that has been said that is IMPORTANT information and/or simple things like paying the $100 PRIOR to your interview and KEEPING the receipt (because you take that into the interview with you). You can pay ahead of time, we paid the day before. Keep that information somewhere that the same SIMPLE questions are right there in your "saved" file. Having the forms TYPED, not handwritten, that kind of stuff...

The process is very very cut and dry if you have the information all in one place, you'll be good to go. I had the forms all completed a month prior, but I re-printed everything the day before I went down for the interview. I had updated letters of intent (not signed by Craig) printed up so that he could sign them. They do NOT need to be notarized and they never took them.

Sorry that "I" am being harsh, but there is simple stuff and then questions that need to be answered because things HAVE changed and constantly are changing. The only things that have changed ---the Embassy moved, they now need the

no (non)-impediment BS thing --which took about a month for Craig to receive, Frontal photos, no sides (as Mindy stated) and forms to be typed. I just took the example that is on VJ and typed "my/our" info in there and printed it out.

I also keep a file (in my computer) of everyones interview information, ie what was needed, taken, etc etc for those that have questions in the future.

Its about time that the Embassy gets even MORE strict with paperwork (a little more organized would be ALOT better and less hassle) ....what "I" truly wish is that they make it MANDATORY for the ones that are coming here to go to a school for 90 days (or so) to help them learn and understand what to expect in the US!!! and if they can't get through the SIMPLE stuff, than they are denied.

It does NOT matter HOW many times you tell your man about things here, they will NOT "listen" (and/or believe you) until they get here and they deal with it themselves. Craig STILL thinks money grows on trees and working HARD for a paycheck is just ???!!! Each and every day is a challenge and like I've mentioned tons of times before, if you don't have children.....you NEED patience with your significant other when they arrive!!!! and be prepared to repeat and teach them almost EVERYTHING !!!!! I've raised my son (who is 13) ....didn't really and truly think I'd have to basically raise another one !!!

Even if we weren't ####### before this process, we turn out to be that way!! We've all had different situations with dealing with the Embassy and some harder than others....mine included. As I've stated numerous times in the past, "I" was the one interviewed NOT my husband at all --which is crazy!! If you don't intend to go to the interview, they will ask LOTS of questions and the interview is nerve wracking as ALL GET OUT!!! I felt like crying, throwing up and laughing hysterically all in one breath !!! Giving birth was easier !!!

If you have ANY questions feel free to PM me !!!

We're all here for SUPPORT and answer the tough questions, although ...again, us "veterans" may not have the "new" answers......only the newbies can help those that are going through the process especially since Dec 2006

Good luck !!!

Kelly -- Wonderfully stated!!!

I told my fiance to ask for a copy of what they send to the Embassy (I saw on this thread that you will need it when filing paperwork later down the line). He asked them, and the doctor said they can't provide a copy because it is confidential and is to go directly to the Embassy..... Here is my issue.... we paid for it, so shouldn't we be entitled to a copy???
Yeah, you paid for it. Yeah, it's his body.....BUT -- the actual "medical" is confidential. Between the Doctor and the U.S. Government. I'd be really surprised if they gave you anything at the Embassy. Not saying it can't happen.....just don't really think it will.

He should have tried to ask for a copy of the "Vaccination Record" -- that's what you need when he gets here. You don't need the actual "medical." If he has his own Vaccination Card you should be okay when you find a Civil Surgeon here in the States.

hi there wehave our interview on the 27 of march question.... when sean gets to the embassy he has to pay the 100 fee before he goes in for the interview? then where is it that they send him to pay after the interview? i read somewhere that money has to be paid after the interview down the block in walking distance from the enbassy.

You pay the $100.00 Visa Fee at Paymaster BEFORE the interview. Take the receipt with you to the interview -- they WILL ask for it.

Airpak is the courier company that delivers the Visa's -- you go there after the interview with your little slip saying you were approved.

Wow. Well, every bit is helpful. I plan to type up all of the forms today and our case just got to the NVC. I've already asked my employer for the job letter and I will print out old tax returns today. The only thing that leaves, really, is for my fiance to do the things that only he can do there. He's responsible and motivated, so I don't worry about it. All I have to do is tell him what he needs to do.

Hello everyone! cam butler here....

I just got back from my interview with my husband on this tuesday... His visa is granted however they want me to file my taxes for this year before he can come...

Let this be a warning to those that apply:

I filed the AOS with my current job income which is above the poverty level.. however... the last three tax transcripts were below the level.. I had not filed my taxes when I went to the interview, I only brought my W2s... The embassy did not accept these W2s alone... so since I had only the w2s they went by the income of the previous tax year which was below, therefore the interviewer told me and husband to do the taxes and bring in the return and then the visa will be granted...

other than that, everything went just fine... the questions they asked my husband was:

How did you meet your wife?

What does she do in america?

where does she live?

How do you keep in touch?

when did you last see your wife?

Where were you married and how many people were there?

then he asked to see the pictures from the wedding.

after that he said "well mr. butler, everything looks fine I see no problem with issuing the visa, however your wife's income from her last tax year is a little low..." and then he gave us a blue piece of paper where we can email to come in again and turn in the paper..

Now more warnings..

If you got married and you changed your name legally (ladies) and you have to file as married jointly.. then you have to submit a w7 for the out of country spouse which will give them a taxpayer number and a whole lot of other fuckery.. word to the wise.. dont change the exemptions on your check at work if you are in the situation of having an overseas spouse.. it is tedious and troublesome...

however as far as the visa.. we just need to bring a copy of the 1040 return to the embassy and that's it, then hubby comes to me..
