LovinJA,

It looks like you have an interview date from your timeline...I thought DS230 Pt 1 had to be turned in to get an interview date(packet 4)?

There is a 50/50 chance that I'll be attending the interview...there are certain weeks of the month that I just CANNOT get off from work. I am going to Jamaica in April though so I'll be taking all the necessary documentation so me and fiance can go over everything together...who knows maybe the interview will fall during the time I am going to be there.

Your list of what to take looks like what I was thinking too, but I'm still clueless to the no-impediment to marraige thing...can you explain?

thanks...

We do have a date. I called and left a heated message at the embassy in mid Jan. because we had not heard anything. Within an hour, my fiance got a call to come to the embassy that following Tues. to pick up Packet 3. He picked it up and they gave him an appt. that same Thurs. to bring back Pt. 1 of DS230. Pt.2 he still has, and we are to bring it to the interview (that is my understanding). So that is the part I am typing up and printing out. He turned in Pt. 1 in the beginning of Feb., and was told Packet 4 would be sent to him via mail. He had not received it as of last week so I called the embassy again and they said they sent it out Feb. 12th. Well, knowing the reliability of the postal service in Jamaica, I went ahead and made an appt. for my fiance to go to the embassy to pick it up (he did that yesterday). So, now he has the interview letter, and this morning I called and scheduled his medical for March 14th. Our interview is March 27th.

I only heard about the No-Impediment to marriage on this forum. It is not stated in any of the forms I've seen. But, I asked my fiance about it and he knows where to go to get it, The Office of the Registrar Generals Dept. I figure it is best to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I know what you mean about not being able to take off certain weeks of the month. I work in finance and our bookclose period is the first week of every month. I was very happy when I found out the interview was on the 27th

I need wisdom please....

Question 1:

I looked under Embassy Info for Kingston and it says Visa Fee Payments should be sent in advance. Should I have my fiance get an appt. at the embassy to take the fee in?

Question 2:

Our interview is March 27th. I am flying in on the 26th, and will be there until April 2nd. I would like to go ahead and purchase his ticket to return with me on the 2nd. Is that too risky? Of course I am being positive and assuming we will be approved. But is is realistic to think he will have his visa in four working days like it states on the website? I know I should probably wait to get his ticket, but it will be so expensive to get it a the last minute. He really wants to travel with me since he has never been on a plane.... He has never been to the gates at the airport.... I would hate for him to have to make the trip alone!

Thanks!

1. Actually you pay the visa fee at the paymaster and bring the receipt w/you to the interview.

2. Having him traveling back with you is 50/50 chance. Although the website may say four days I have seen other couples taking longer then that. I guess it would depends on the courier service and the location where your fiance lives. I wouldn't chance it BUT if you think it may save you some money maybe you can purchase the ticket and have the ticket date changed if anything. I guess it would depends on how much of a savings you will ultimately get. Just my opinion.

Yes, you do need a No Impediment to Marriage certifciate before the interview. Here's the info:

Here's the information taken from another post:

U.S. Embassy Announces Changes to Immigrant Visa Document Requirements

Beginning December 1, 2005, the Immigrant Visa Unit of the Consular

Section of the United States Embassy will require all Jamaica-resident

applicants for immigrant visas who are aged 18 years of age and older and

are in categories requiring them to be unmarried to obtain a

Certificate of No-Impediment to Marriage. This new requirement will affect

applicants in the IR2, IR3, IR4, F11, F22, and F24 categories who are aged

18 or older. It will also affect all Jamaica-resident children aged 18

and older who will be accompanying an immigrant visa applicant.

Applicants should apply for a Certificate of No-Impediment to Marriage

at any office of the Registrar General's Department or on the Registrar

General's Department website. Applicants may find further information

about this document and the form for requesting it at

http://www.rgd.gov.jm.

Also beginning December 1, 2005, the Immigrant Visa Unit of the

Consular Section of the United States Embassy will require all applicants for

immigrant visas who have served in the military to obtain a copy of

their Military Service Record. Applicants who have served in the Jamaica

Defence Force may obtain a Military Service Record at Up Park Camp,

Kingston 5.

Here's what the certificate looks like:no%20impedi.jpg

K-1 visa applicants do need this certificate.

Jewel is the only store here that is on the grocery game too. That is great that you already have a discount from Roy working there. I shop at aldis when there aren't things on the list that I need like milk and eggs. Last week I saved 31 dollars and only spent 35 dollars total. We need a budget so I can explain to him because he is a spender.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome LovinJA!

Jax I would love to learn how to stick to a strict budget once Javon arrives as well b/c he is also a spender. I'm frugal so I have learned to make it but once he comes I know we will have some problems.

Anna go to your Library and check out the book " The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. He tells you how to budget your money and save for the future. He first radio show was called the Money Game. Know he is on radio everyday for three hours. I get the show on a local am channel here he might be on some channel near Chicago. His web site is www.daveramsey.com. I recomended getting the book at the library to save a few dollars.

Anna thanks for the hope in the job sistuation. Just worried because I married a musician.

((Ricardo)) a delay is better than a denial - this can be fixed, so chin up and look at the positive side of things.

I know how you feel - hubby went to interview but he didn't have a new copy of his birth certificate so we were given a slip to return in two weeks for another interview. All the "yardie veterans" can tell you how pissed I was, but they all gave me the same advice I'm giving you . If there is anything I/we can do to help don't hesitate to let us know!

ok, i understand you now. I am going to fill out DS230 Pt1 and mail to fiance and hopefully it will reach him around the same time time Packet 3 will reach him...if not I'll be on the phone with that embassy too.

Finesse,

I also found out that Packet 3 contains DS156, DS156K, and DS157. You can fill those out and send them as well.

Thanks Anna.

My fiance has all of this paperwork, but when I ask him specifics, he just says everything is ok and is handled.... I like to know exactly what to expect, and have all bases covered. He is very laid back, So, I am looking at all of this online to make sure that everything is done....

Where is the paymaster and when do we have to pay the fee? Is this something we do at the Embassy right before the interview, or does this have to be done a week or so in advance? Also, what happens in the event that the visa is not approved, or there is a dely? Do they give you your money back?

Thanks to all of you for welcoming me and offering your insight!

How about an Ipod??

If he already has one, how about the step counter that goes in his shoes and syncs with the Ipod? Good if he walks or runs for exercise....

We paid our visa fee a the embassy right before our interview. Most other people paid at a paymaster prior to the interview.

They do not give your money back in the event of a denial. I think it's a way of generating revenue. We have the reciept from when we paid for my hubby's daughter's visa. We were told it's still useable, but for how long is the question.

Don't know about the other questions, but you DEFINITELY won't get the fee back if the visa is not approved.
