And that is why I won't have my wife working there. In my opinion the pay isn't worth her time.

It's just not worth it......not worth it at all.....

I know. The economy there is awful. Tony made almost all his money off of tips when he worked down there. You can't live off the minimum wage they pay you

This was posted in another forum and I though you guys might be interested....It can be found in "Removing Conditions...." <I don't know how to do the Link > Basically, the replies went from "yes, they can and will call you" to "it's a joke/bill collector."

I posted that my father JUST received a call from someone who said they were with the Department of Homeland Security...it was a Toronto area code -- and it was a scam. The guy wanted my dad to send him a MoneyGram and then he would deposit money into my dad's bank account.

Guess the point is -- YES, you can get a call from the "Government" and YES, you can get a call from a scammer. If your SO is home alone during the day it might be a good idea to tell them to check the Caller ID before they pick up the phone. Me personally -- I am telling Roy NOT to pick up the phone if he doesn't know the number that shows up. If it is DHS calling....they will call back....

*************************************************************

Earlier this week, completely out of the blue, my wife received a call to her home phone from someone claiming to be from the Dept of Homeland Security.

They asked if we were still married, where we still living in the same house, if either of us were employed... and that was basically it.

It was such an out-of-the-blue thing, plus the fact that if someone calls from the govt then it throws you off, that she can't remember if they gave an ID number or not... when we checked the call history on the phone there was no number there. Not private or blocked - NO NUMBER.

So my question is... is this a normal type of thing? Has this ever happened to anyone else? Do I have anything to be worried about?

Or is this a new and improved way for bill collectors to check on you before they make a move?

Missed you guys for the past weekend.

DENDEN: Im sick to my stomache. My prayers are with you. Pray to God for strength,HE has always carried me through. You will see a happier day. I promise.

Well guys, my sweetie got his interview letter from the Embassy on Friday. Of course he didnt tell me until Friday afternoon. So in the meantime I was with you guys dialing repeatedly to the Embassy, literally screaming at the chicks on the phone becuase of 3 lost calls, transfers to voice mail you name it, it happened. I even got to the point I told them I was going to notify my Senator. It was horrible. I really dont think they ever sent the Packet #3. How can that be if we got the Interview letter first???

Nonetheless, it was nice being able to call the Drs. office to make his medical appt. & get such nice friendly helpful voices on the other end. They even said "Youre most welcome". Gotta love the Jamaican language!!!

Being Jamaican in a new environment I wonder if people will also think it's cute when I do say things like "You're most welcome" . I say that quite a lot. So far they just stare at me and Jay when we dine out. They'll get over it in time. Good luck, Texas and the rest of you guys with interviews coming up.
