The truth of the matter is that the Embassy SUCKS and I am a firm believer that they do try to make it more miserable hoping that it will become too hard and too stressful and you will give up. That is what I have always thought -- NEVER have I run into more of a bunch of incompetent people in my life.

Do we really have to pay an additional $180.00 for the EAD..pon top of de AOS/Biometrics fee?

Yup, you sure do. Depending on the timelines for where you are filing you might not need to file for the EAD -- if the interviews for the AOS are moving quickly. It could save you some money -- but -- if the interviews get pushed back for any reason you won't have a work permit. I think that's what they count on and it just that much more cash they get to bleed from us.

I'm confused now...do I send the AOS to the "chicago lockbox" and the EAD to the local USCIS office (in my case ST Albans)?

I have been looking at the time lines and they are taking about 90 days for the EAD and 4-6 months for the AOS. That's if you don't get caught up in the FBI name check thing.

Hello VJ family.

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Regards,

SherMike

Congrats Smilypaige.

We had to pay for two EADs because we got caught up in the FBI name check....it was expensive but worth every penny. The six months Damien stayed home without a work permit drove me

I don't think I should really be around here, I live in the UK and my fiance lives in DC, so I should be on the UK section lol...

I did grow up in Jamaica though, and I'm half Jamaican half English...Do I get to join lol?

From what I have read you'll have it a bit easier at the embassy than the rest of us. I can relate being the child of Jamaican and British immigrants to the US.

Good luck.

Well, when we were first thinking of this process, my heart sunk at the thought of all the proof I thought I'd have to have...But since I've been reading the board realised that the USC doesn't even have to come to the interview in London!!

I guess with Jamaica they have the impression people are just trying to get out of Jamaica, but with countries such as the UK, Canada and Australia, they assume that isn't the case...Biased I guess.....

But the others on the main board don't seem to be as friendly as you guys over here lol!

Good Morning Yardies!!

Welcome to the newbies!!!

I have come across a new calling card company with some of the best rates and features I have seen so far.

The web site is www.1centplan.com

Jamaica 8.5 cent

Jamaica personal 11.3 cent

Jamaica Mobile 19 cent with a toll free number or 18 cent if you use local access number

With this company you can view and print a detailed calling list. They also give you free minutes upon signing up with them.

There is no contract, you can choose auto charge, best of all.... NO hidden fees! You are only charged for time you use.

Hopefully this info is usefull to you all.
