One more question before I leave can I request a date for my interview? I was hoping that my interview could be around March 26 through March 30th. I have that week off for Spring break. Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks,

Jax

I tried to do that last year with little luck. What I got was a date 2 days after the range I asked for. I was in Kingston for business. I ended up requesting a vacation so I could stay on the island a few extra days. My boss decided he'd rather have me working in Kingston than on vacation, so I got to stay for the interview.

Well the embassy is now late in responding to my senator.

You know I wonder if those people at the embassy are jealous that they can't migrate. :protest:

That might be ONE reason Eric! They might just be evil and enjoy making our lives miserable? I have given up trying to call or send emails. If not I will keep pulling my hair out!!! :crying: :crying: Im telling you that one day Iam going to write to 20/20 or 60 Minutes or one of those shows and have them do an undercover sting on what REALLY goes on down there!

But on the brighter side WE have each other. HURRAY!! Everyone here has helped me sooooo much emotionally and factually. I am SOOO grateful for all of YOU. MANY TANKS.

I am going to JA Friday for a long weekend. Havent seen my baby in 5 MONTHS! :o I hope while I am gone they decide to give us a date in March too. I will bring all of your wishes, thoughts and love to JA with me. good vibes.

Overworked and underpaid...glad to hear about the increase but chances are the taxes will go up as well...

Minimum wage increase

published: Wednesday | January 24, 2007

Edmond Campbell, Senior News Coordinator

Jamaicans now earning the National Minimum Wage will see a 14 per cent increase in their take-home pay effective next Monday.

Cabinet has approved an increase in the minimum wage which has moved from $70 per hour to $80 per hour, or from $2,800 per 40- hour work week to $3,200 for the similar period.

Industrial security guards will receive a 13.52 per cent increase in their pay, moving from $103.50 per hour to $117.50 per hour, or from $4,140 per 40-hour work week to $4,700 for the same period.

Allowances for industrial security guards have also been adjusted as follows:

Laundry allowances from $20

- $22 per hour

Firearm allowance from $21

- $25 per hour

Dog handler's allowance $15

- $17 per hour (40-hour work week)

This announcement was made in Parliament yesterday by Minister of Labour and Social Security Derrick Kellier.

Opposition Spokesman on Labour, Ruddy Spencer, said while the Jamaica Labour Party supported any measure which would provide increased benefit to minimum-wage earners, the increase provided by Government was "negligible". He said with the increase, the workers' spending power when compared with their earnings last year had declined in real terms.

"The worker with this increase is in a worse position. I am not excited about the increase," Mr. Spencer lamented.

 that's less than $ 50.00 USD per 40 hour work week; and yet they pay the same or more for many retail items.

I am guesing you are going the I130 route, CR-1, there is a fee for the Affidavit of support I-864, and the DS-230, that based on last years procedures, NVC sends you a bill, you pay it, and they send you the forms. There is also a security fee as well included in there somewhere. I believe I have them listed in my signiture.

Hi,

When I received my packet in November I was confused about that fee too. I called the embassy and was told it was an error (I applied for a K-1 visa) and that I should only pay the US$100.00 fee at Paymaster. I don't know about the I-864...I used a different one for my interview in December. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Mars.

Re: Wages...my salary in Kingston was way above minimum wage and it was still so difficult to make ends meet. Some days I had to choose between the rent or groceries. Tough situation.
