From the looks of the letter I can already tell it's not what he thinks it is. It is actually a letter from the senators office saying that he is no longer in office rey, rey, rey and to re submitt our request for help with the case  Another let down :( My poor baby. We have to hear something soon :crying:

Damn -- that SUCKS!!! :ranting: What now? Do you re-submit......doesn't/wouldn't someone there know what is going on so you wouldn't have to start from the beginning again?

When do you leave for Cali?

Alright, so I've been thinking about what I can do next...I am going to see if I can file a waiver to overturn their decision...I don't know if it will work or not, but I will give it a shot...but in the meantime, I have been seriously contemplating what our next step will be...we both still want to get married nest year, only now it HAS to be in JA, which isn't a real issue for me..the issue is what to do afterwards? I am entertaining the idea of moving down there for a year or 2 until we are able to file again, but I'm not sure...is there anyone here who has lived down there? I know that it will be difficult, and there will be alot of things to get used to, although I am not completely unaware. Whenever I go to see him, I stay with him in his one room and without any of the comforts of resort living...I've gotten used to the idea of being without...my biggest concern is finding a job...I will receive my Master's degree in Professional Counseling in May...are there opportunities available in that kind of work down there? I would like to stay in that field or something similar like social work, but I'm not sure what JA has to offer. I have been doing some research on the internet, but alot of the programs don't offer contact information, and those that do, haven't responded to my inquiries. What do I do? I know they offer jobs to Jamaican nationals first, but still, do you really think that I could work down there? I'm not even expecting this great pay or anything...I just want to be able to keep my head above water....or do you think I should try and stick it out here for the next couple of years and wait until he can reapply?? I don't know...if anyone has ANY advice, could you throw some my way? And for all those that will be in JA for the holidays..be safe and be blessed!

Well it would seem that you certainly have alot to think about! I would suggest that you do some serious research before you move to Jamaica! You know how poor a country it is. I don't think I could bring myself to live there because we have it so much better over here in the US! The decision is yours ultimately, I would just want everything to work out for you!

I think you need to find someone (don't know how or where -- maybe try to "hook up" with Eric -- he used to frequent us here) who has been through this. Or, find an attorney who actually knows what he is talking about (I know, that is an oxymoron....).

Here is my issue/question. He got turned down because he ADMITTED to drug use in the past -- he DID NOT test positive for drug use. There is a three year hold if you tested positive -- and since nobody has heard from Eric we don't know what happens after the three years is up -- but, to me, that's a whole other issue that doesn't have any real effect on you (at least I don't think it does) I have a sinking feeling that once you test positive there is no way you can ever be let in -- they might be why Eric never came back on VJ to tell us what happened at his interview....(well....whatever....)

But in your case -- he didn't test positive!! That's the most important thing here.

I would definitely see if you can file the waiver or file some kind of protest or something. If there is no way they are going to issue him a Visa now -- how can they in three years? What difference is the three years going to make -- the answer to the question will still remain the same. He can't take that back.

This makes me so mad :ranting: I think you guys got shafted and I would do everything possible to turn it around. Maybe you should contact your Senator. Get someone here in the States involved. Someone with a "higher power" needs to step in and help you out. What happened is just so wrong and unjust.....okay, I'm done now......

It really depends on the location. Of course if you're located in the city you have a much better chance of getting a job. What about transportation? Will you have access to a car or would you have to rely on public trans? Are you willing to consider other jobs besides social work? I have a cousin that was thinking of relocating back to JA but that was her main concern. She currently lives in England and is also pursuing her Masters. I like living in JA will be hard but if you are well prepared and have enough money saved then you should be fine. Of course there will have to be a budget but if you are a simple person like myself then you will make it. The only thing I would worry about is filing once you return. Since you will be there for a while what will happen when you decide to file the I-134/I-824 for the K3 or CR/IR? Would you need a co-sponsor since I dont think you will be able to use the income you made in JA.

First I would like to introduce myself as a newbie here

I'll be turning 20 next month and I will be graduating from college next year and plan on teaching afterwards.

I've been dating a guy in JA for about 2 yrs now and am planning on filing the K-1 when i graduate and am working.

I have no clue where to start and what I should do to make the filing strong.

I've tried reading previous threads, but I feel so behind in the conversations.

Can anyone please :help: ????

I'm not sure what the difference is...for whatever reason 3 years is the "magic number" for being clean I suppose...she suggested that he can go to counseling to show that he is no longer smoking (even though he hasn't been), which he is planning to do...and I suppose he could submit to random drug tests to prove that he is still clean...I don't know if any of this will make a difference...but we're going to do all that we can...in addition to this, we will be filing an appeal within the next couple of weeks....

Of course I dont live there so I really am just talking. But when I travelled there I was curious to see if the job situation was as bad as Ive heard...so I got the local paper & it had plenty of jobs, looked like ours over here in Dallas. The degrees, job history, educational opportunities were all there......I always thought that if I moved over there I could get a job too with my background & do pretty good. But assumption. You should put your resume out there, check out the government job banks (HELL, maybe get a job at the Embassy). Plus when I went to the Registrar generals office I noticed the clerks were not very fluent in their English or computer skills but Hey, they had a job!!! So I think you have a good chance over there. Also check out the major companies (blue mountain, etc), they are always looking for people in their HR departments or administrative offices. If they are like us, a degree is great & it doesnt matter what your field is--just looks good on the resume. Apply & call the International companies---DHL, UPS, Tourist companies, Resorts are super big there & are international-Sandals) Im sure there are more, go through the yellow pages online for Jamaica. Im just running with thoughts, I hope this helps.
