Kim -- So sorry. What an evil woman....I just don't understand how someone could do that. Please give Duane our regards. Regarding the EAD -- yeah, you won't need it once you get the Green Card.

Tamisha -- Good luck!! Make sure you leave your cell phones & cameras at the hotel.

THAT IS AWESOME.

I JUST GOT MY CASE # FROM NVC!!!! Moving along.

Have him go get his No Impediment form from the Registrar Generals office. $100US it takes 3 weeks to receive.

Oh my gosh, that was my thought too. Give him my truck (pray he doesnt pimp it out with rims) & get a car for me. We bought a little run around car in Jamaica a few months ago to help him get around especially since soon he will need to drive to Kingston quite a bit. That poor car has become literally a home, it has a compact dvd tv, new cd player, you name it. We have almost spent more $ on repairs & accessories its probably worth more than the car itself. He is so happy though. Ive always learned, the bigger the boys, the bigger the toys. & as long as it keeps him occupied Im all for it.

I have a question for all those who's loved ones have received their Visa's. How long from the interview and approval to when they received their actual Visa in hand? I would like to go down to my husbands interview and then have him and his daughter fly home with me, but I'm thinking that it's too risky to assume we'll have their Visa's in hand in 4-5 days. Unless I can convince him that he will be okay flying here on his own, he's going to have to do the interview without me. :(

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you, then I can do some planning!! :)

hello ladies....couple quick questions....

If he meets this criteria he has to register with Selective Service:

What is Selective Service Registration?

Selective Service registration allows the United States Government to maintain a list of names of men who may be called into military service in case of a national emergency requiring rapid expansion of the U.S. Armed Forces. By registering all young men, the Selective Service can ensure that any future draft will be fair and equitable.

Federal law requires that men who are at least 18 years old, but not yet 26 years old, must be registered with Selective Service. This includes all male non-citizens within these age limits who permanently reside in the United States. Men with "green cards" (lawful permanent residents) must register. Men living in the United States without INS documentation (undocumented aliens) must also register. But men cannot register after reaching age 26.

Why Do I Need to Register with the Selective Service?

Failure to register for the Selective Service may (in certain instances) make you ineligible for certain immigration benefits, such as citizenship.

For instructions on registering with Selective Service as an immigrant, please see the Selective Service System's "Registration Information."

If you would like to confirm that you or someone else are registered with Selective Service, please see the Selective Service System's "Check a Registration" Webpage.

If you would like answers to frequently asked questions about Selective Service, please see the Selective Service System's "Frequently Asked Questions" Webpage.

CONGRATS! :P

I just went out and checked my mail box.. I got my approval letter today my case has been forwarded to the NVC :dance:

Great news! Congrats

I JUST GOT MY CASE # FROM NVC!!!! Moving along.

We didn't register with SS and don't plan to (shhhh) I wish they would try and draft my man! I'd cut off a foot if need be to keep him out of the military

D does not plan on becoming a citizen (a decision I support 1000%)

Go apply for SS card in about 2-3 weeks (give them time to put his info in the system). If you go too early it could actually hold up your process. Have you checked the link on the board for applying for SS card? That's what we used when D got his.

I have no clue about the Post Office -- it probably is for the Selective Service.

We were told (here on VJ) to wait at least 2-3 weeks before going to Social Security to make sure his info is in the system. I can't really remember the specifics but there was something about if you go too soon and he's NOT in the system it can delay the process further. I would post (or search) for this in the AOS/EAD forum. MDYoung will answer all your SS questions.
