I just got back from visiting my wife yesterday and I found out that my big sister has developed brain cancer.

She lives in San Antonio as do I, is 29, and she has 3 children. The doctor says there is a 60% chance that she will only live 6-12 months.

She said that she wants to meet my wife before she gets "too bad", and she needs all the help she can get, as her husband is an active duty major in the USAF. Is it worth applying for an expedite for my case?

I am very sorry to hear about your sister. How very sad.

Unfortunately they have very strict rules in what warrents a case being expedited. There has been many threads in the past on similar situations to yours and they have not been granted :( Is it worth applying for an expedite for your case.......anything is worth it even if it is not granted, as you would have done all that you possibly can.

All the best to you and your family.

Definitely, you can try. If they approved, then great. If not, then at least you tried.

Hi there,

try calling them and explain the situation, then ask if they can do anything. Sometimes they give you a faxnumber with even the supervisors number.

From what I understand, you can fax or mail your request for an expedite, along with supporting documents. The instructions are on the USCIS website under each service center. I would do so if I were you. And I hope that your request, should you send it, is granted. I wonder if it is because the illness involves your sister, and not you or your fiance/spouse, if that will impact the decision? But it can't hurt to try, and I would definitely attempt it if I were in your shoes. I'd send a letter from her doctor with contact information verifying her situation, as well as some proof that she is your sister, and the letter requesting that USCIS expedite. Good luck.

Thanks for the support guys. I am only 20, and my big sister has always taken care of me. It broke my heart when she showed me the MRI. The tumor is bigger than a golf ball and is near her movement/speech part of her brain. She could be going under the knife as early as Monday, so we will see how it goes.

I am just worried because of the k-3 backlog that she might die before my wife even gets here. USCIS is not in good favor with me right now.

Again, thanks for the support.

God Bless Ual! Hopefully all will go well. Doctors nowadays can work miracles. My dad had a tumor the size of a golf ball in the back left corner of his brain....that was over 12 years ago. She may have problems with her speech but she has as good a chance as anyone on surviving. I hope all goes well and that whatever happens, that all is well with you and your family.

I think anything is worth trying for your sisters wishes, even if it doesn't get approved, you still tried your hardest and that is always worth something.

Best Wishes and God Bless.

Sorry to hear about ur sister. All one can do is ask, they may say yes, or no, you wonty know unless you try.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Sorry to hear of your sister and her illness. Like the others have stated I would attempt to get it expedited and do contact your congressman visa specialist and see if they will help in any way.

Good luck and prayers are with your family.
