Good morning-ish everyone!

I've been reading through the forums for quite some time. A friend of mine gave them to me and said it was a great help, so I've been reading up as of late, and a lot of the stress melted away after finding this site. It's also SO nice to see so many people who met online. Being surrounded by people who just don't get it (meeting online) is insanely frustrating. I've grown weary of the "you just grew a second head" looks. Thank you for making me feel normal again!

Rob and I met in July of 2007. We were friends for several months (I was going through a divorce). Rob came to visit in October and November of 2008, and we were engaged during that time. I went to Scotland to meet his family in July of 2009 (what a great b-day). FYI: A room full of Scots is like being surrounded by the seagulls in Finding Nemo. Instead of shouting MINE MINE MINE it's AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE. ;)

Rob and I are getting ready to start the K1 process in a week or two, so, the journey begins...well, the paperwork filled expensive part anyway!

I don't know why anyone makes an issue of meeting online. My husband and I met that way. :)

Welcome to VJ!

I think that a lot of people feel it isn't safe, or that you can't really get to know a person that way. I don't think they understand that when you meet someone online there is nothing to do BUT get to know them. I think it's an amazing thing to meet the person who makes your life everything you could have wished for and more.

Thank you for the welcome!

Hey!

I'm in Arkansas too, in Rogers (NW Arkansas), and met my US husband online too (well, sort of- an online bookclub that also has offline meetings). Arkansas is a lovely place to live, very family friendly. Just make sure you bring a huuuuge supply of tea biscuits, they don't have them here! :)

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I am closer to Little Rock. Rob already has a wish list from me (and I'm the American) of things I want him to bring, and he's already pouting about not being able to get some of his favorites. I need lemon Shortbread....YUMMMMMM and CASES of Assam (it's really expensive here) :(. I'll have to try and figure out how to make some of those things he likes so much.

I love it in Arkansas...except when it's like 112 degrees :/ I'm fairly certain his pale Scottish skin is going to melt right off of his bones!

Welcome to VJ!

I hear ya on the internet meeting thing. We met in Second Life (an MMORPG type virtual world), neither of us with the intention of meeting someone but Ry was adamant that until we met 'in real life' he didn't want to discuss it with any friends or family. He felt they'd all just start trying to get him 'a real girlfriend' and still now, despite 3 years of relationship, a collective 17 weeks spent in the US by me and 27 weeks spent in the UK by him, everyone still thinks it's 'wierd' how we have online dates and he turns down doing stuff so we can 'hang out' together!

And everyone keeps telling me that we'll melt when we move (I have a daughter). Granted, it's to AZ so it's a dry heat but honestly, it's actually really refreshing to get up every morning and know you only need to wear a tank top, shorts and flipflops every day. Here, we spend 7 months of the year in perpetual damp, cool gray and bar the 2 weeks of 'heatwave' we have, the rest of the time is spent second-guessing what we'll have to put on in layers so we can accommodate the cold morning, warm afternoon and rainy evening all on the same day!

The differences in language and pronunciation are a blast! There's a running joke with us now about how the English have kinky dressings because every time I order ranch dressing in the States, they think it sounds like raunch. I personally think it sounds like rarrnch but they're convinced otherwise! lol

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Ha!!! We met in World of Warcraft and it was the same sort of thing. I had baggage, wasn't looking, and BAM. I just flat out tell people my PC time is the same as them sitting on their butts watching TV. They generally leave me alone after that. ;)

The language differences are hilarious. Your raunchy dressing...hilarious! You should have heard me the first time he called me a wench. I went off on him and he was all WTH did I do? Here calling someone a wench is NOT nice. He says it means "sexy" (help me bust him out if he's messing with me ;) ) He always teases me because I get mad or sleepy I sound SUPER Southern, (he goes "IT'S Shake and Bake and I HELPED") other than that not too much. I think my favorite word I learned from him is "Skitters".

It might be refreshing to wear a tank top every day, but Arizonia is a totally different kind of heat than Arkansas. You're right, it's a "dry" heat, where the heat here is the kind where going out to check the mail will leave you covered in a sweat. The so called "hot" part of Scotland in July was what we consider a comfortable spring or fall day...lol. He was sweating like a pig, and I was mostly comfortable. The weather there was different! It was sunny for the first 3 days I was there, and then it rained every day after that. It was still humid like here, but we went to Northern Scotland, and I thought I was going to freeze!!! I couldn't imagine living there in the winter. I'm pretty sure I would be a shut in!!!
