Hi All,

My husband currently resides in Cyprus, speaks turkish fluently and used to live in Ankara where he played football. He loved Ankara and Istanbul by the way and wants to take me there someday! We are wondering how difficult it is obtain a police report from Ankara. We have not yet rec'd our NOA2 but wanted to prepare in case he needs to fly to Ankara to obtain this police report, if that makes it easier. Any advice, help suggestions would be greatly appreciated :D

Thank you in advance for posting your advice and or experiences..

I do not know about Ankara, but my husband got his police certificate from Sanli Urfa, it took him 2 days to get it, one to apply for it, and the next day to pick it up. Not sure if there was a fee for it or not, but I think so as I had asked him to get 2 copies and he got one and said he could make more copies later. I tried to impress on him that we needed 2 offical copies, not copies of the original. I wanted 2 copies just in case they lose the first one and also because we have filed for both the K3 and the CR-1 visas and was not sure if you needed have the police certificate for each.

Good luck,

Michele

Hello Akatagirlş

If you go to ADLI SICIL GENEL MUDURLUGU-the directorate of criminal records building in Ankara in the morning and gie the ID of Turkish citizen and pay 3 Lira per copy you get it from the same place in 3 hours.

The directorate is located in Kizilay. If you ask people when you/your spouse gets there you should have no problem finding the place.

Also the document is in English so you do not need any translation..no expenses for having that translated.

I hope this answer is not too late and it helps you.

:)

I am now a US citizen.

Thank you internetkafe and Michelle and Omer for your responses to this my inquiry..My husband spoke to the Turkish Embassy and they informed him that since his last residence was in a place called 'evenin' ( sorry i dont think i spelled it correctly) he will need to go there and will be able to get in one day...Our only problem now is his job will not allow for him to take time off to go back to turkey to take care of this..Have any of you had any luck or what experiences have you heard about people who obtained police reports from Turkey via postal mail?

Thanks so much for all your input!

I have not heard of anyone who got criminal records via mail. But it is worth a try.

However if he can go to Ankara he can get it in 3 hours. That is the fastest you can get.

I do not know if your husband has Turkish citizenship or not but Turkish citizens need not go to each and every place where they had resided in the past to get police report. Ankara was not a place I had been living but I got it there. It is the highest you can reach. The Directorate of Criminal Records under the Ministry of Justice. And your report which is also in English is signed by a Judge unlike other reports you get elsewhere in Turkish.

This is all I can say to help you. After reading this you are the one to decide what to do.

I am now a US citizen.
