WASHINGTON (AFP) – Some 700 million people worldwide, or more than all the adults of North and South America combined, think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and want to permanently move to another country, a poll showed Tuesday.

Residents of sub-Saharan African countries were the most likely to want to move abroad permanently, the polls conducted in 135 countries between 2007 and this year by Gallup showed.

On average, 38 percent of the adult population in sub-Saharan Africa, or around 165 million people, said they would up stakes and head for another country if they had the chance.

The most popular destination was the United States, where nearly a quarter of the 700 million -- around 165 million people -- said they would like to settle.

In joint second were Britain, Canada and France, each being named as the preferred destination of around 45 million people.

Thirty-five million said they would go to Spain, 30 million to Saudi Arabia, and 25 million each to Australia or Germany.

The least likely to want to emigrate were Asians -- only one in 10 Asian adults said they would move to another country.

Nearly 260,000 people aged 15 years and older were surveyed, either by phone or face-to-face, for the poll, which has a margin of error of around five percent.

I thought that Australia would have been the country of choice since they are at the top of everything.

Australia only wants clean and well spoken western immigrants and does a good job of hiding itself from undesirables in Nigeria.

And we all know how lenient America is to the non-caucasion, uneducated, criminal.

Removes tongue from cheek

Yeap, they are greeted at the airports by ACLU representatives who give them limo rides to their taxpayer-funded home in the projects where they are greeted by ACORN prostitutes who give them half off on blowjobs.

Interesting that the article doesn't report how many Americans want to emigrate. Were they included? If so, does that mean that more than 1 in 10 Americans wants to leave?

Yeah it would be nice to know who wanted to move and who wanted to stay put.

Talking about about Projects,

It's a place to live just like anywhere else, I grew up in the project (CONEY ISLAND HOUSING Marlborough Housing). There's nothing wrong with living in the projects, for most people it's a transition in their life. I never felt scared, worried, mostly i get nervous walking about those italian neighborhood in Bensonhurst. There's no place like home, no matter how fancy it might look.

Some of the projects are more dangerous than others. We have what we call "government-sponsored housing" out on Long Island but it's nothing like the projects I've seen in the city. It looks like a small apartment community, you wouldn't be able to tell it was government-sponsored. However, some of them are just as dangerous and/or more dangerous than those in the city. Looks are deceiving!

The majority of immigrants coming here are from 2nd to 3rd world countries.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The US projects is why they stopped building such housing in Aus. Nowadays, the government will build much smaller buildings or even single homes for the disadvantaged. Gone are the failed days of high rise public housing.
